18 inch Speedlines - WTB?
I've searched...
I will be receiving a new to me '92 C2 in a month or so. I want to put 18 inch wheel tire setup on, and for me, it has to be the three piece SpeedLine, or copy with the same look and light weight. No heavy / soft RH copy. A true Speedline cup wheel is the preference, but realize they are made of unobtainium, so what are my options? I've seen that AP Design sells a same design wheel, but with the dollar being crushed against the Euro, and shipping - I don't see this as an option. Does anyone import these? Is there an avail option in the US, or do I shop Ebay until some SpeedLines show up? |
Just and FYI, the factory Speedline wheels are cast and heavy when compared to a Fikse, BBS, Kinesis, etc.

I know the newer wheels are lighter (maybe better), but this will be a 90% street car, and I just want that look...
If / when I AutoX or DE, I'll slap on the 17 inchers with some stickier rubber. That's the thinking anyway.. |
If it's the look you're after, there are a number of aftermarket copies of what has to be the best looking wheel for a 964. AS Geoffrey stated most, if not all will be lighter than the originals. Try wheelenhancement.com however I'm sure your fellow countrymen will be of more assistaqnce in sourcing the parts locally.
Shame you sold your Duke... I had one of the late 70's 900 SS with the Imola tank and lace up Borrani rims. Sadly I had a brain fade and sold it to a mate many years before they became a collectors item. Neil |
The original Speedline Cup wheels are not a good option for a street car in my opinion. First, they are very, very expensive if you can find a set. But assuming cost is no object, there are other reasons to look for an alternative. The original Speedlines are meant as racing wheels, most or which were used in competition. The centers are prone to cracking especially as they get older. For racing use, where the wheels are inspected frequently this is not a problem.
If you want the same look, go for the RH replica in the same sizes (18x8 and 18x9.5). They are an exact replica in every way, and well constructed. They are not appreciably heavier, and they cannot be distinguished from the Speedline in terms of appearance. |

No affil. These are stronger, lighter AND cheaper than the RH's, believe it or not :). These were also discussed in another thread.. Do a search on "Kerscher" on the 964 board.. There was a German guy with a signal green 964 who fitted these with perfect results! Good luck. |
I've got the 18" Kinesis versions on my 911 and love the look. But the Kinesis are now made of unobtanium also. I use a set of 18" turbo twist wheels for track. If one gets bent, its fairly easy to replace compared to speedlines or Kinesis. I'd love to get a set of Fikse but cannot afford them anytime soon.

Mitch go to the 964 Turbo forum and there is a posting for Speedline coppies. These are two companies that i would deal with... Velocewheels or Kerscher...... I am in the same thoughts as you. No other wheels compare in my opinion on a 964... Good Luck......... |

Dealerships will charge you over $8k for the same thing. As far as looks the discerning eye can tell the difference but it is not enough to make it an issue unless they are being sold as original on a 94 turbo. |
