Are these the same as the RS door panels for the 993, or are they slightly different?

should be the same, since you can swap 993 door cards for the 964 and get a more updated look.

What are the current options for RS-style door panels?

I have looked at the Appbiz website but it is tough to get a feel for the quality of their products. Does their leather or vinyl version look better?

Are genuine RS panels really enpensive? Does anyone else make a nice RS panel replica?

Thanks

AppBiz has them with the plastic/poly back, others use wood or some sort of cardboard... So yes, you can get them from different sources. I have the Applied Business Concept (Appbiz) units in my 964 and Original Fit Interiors (backboard on these is wood) in the SC.

I got vinyl for both cars... not sure how different the leather might look.

Would you say that the quality of one is better than the other?

I like that Appbiz uses the fiberboard instead of plywood... not sure how the SC door panels will look after a few rain showers (even with the plastic membrane from the car the wood will get wet...). The cuts for the speakers and switches is nicer.

Handles look the same, the door straps from Original Fit Interiors is better.

Vinyl in both look the same, imho...

Remember this is a very simple item... flat board covered with vinyl or leather... you could make it at home using your existing panel as a template...

on the OEM RS Door Panels, i have a bit of experiance with ordering them.

1. They are very expensive $800.00-ish list price, Each.
2. The 964 Part Numbers are NLA, they have been replaced with them 993 Part's (exactly the same)
3. Porsche does not note this in there system, the 964 parts are just not advailable.
4. They do not come with ANY of the hardware you need to mount them, no door pulls, nothing, Nada, Zilch, just the door panel.
5. There are a LOT of Options for RS door panels, Pockets, Speakers, Speaker blanks, No speakers, No Speaker cut outs, Manual windows, power windows.
6. Reduced Radio Content Does not Mean - No speakers, it just means there is a speaker grill that is not meant to have a speaker (ala RS america w/o the Radio option they still had the speaker grill)
7. i can supply you with exact part #'s for Electric windows without Speakers (no cut outs)
8. they are special order only and take 6-8 weeks to make and ship from Germany (there might be 1 or 2 sets in the US in a given year, it is not a high demand item, but you could get lucky)
9. they are NOT returnable, unless porsche screws up your order.
10. They are Different than the aftermarket panels in the mounting of the door pull, and they are made with a very high quality vynal, and are slightly "Puffy'er" than the app biz ones

I bought a set to replace the ones that were lost durring my rebuild. and went through litterally months of agony with them to get it right (we finially called the parts warehouse manager in germany, with the parts manager from PCNA, my dealer and had a Conf call to talk about Door Panels!

the App biz panels are fine actually. Cheap, good quality from the aftermarket, they come with all the stuff to make them work.

I did not mount my real panels but instead mounted a set of the App biz ones so i could throw in a pair of speakers while my car is on DD duty.

What was your materials list? They look nice and clean, and I wouldn't mind doing this myself over winter. Looks like Masonite with a little batting over that, then the vinyl over that.

Hey yeah that DIY panel looks really nice, but where did you buy all the stuff like the pulls and the handles? Also what do you think it cost you to make them?

The 993rs original handles are a lot cheaper in teh UK than the 964rs ones. iirc the 993RS part was about £47+vat ea vs £200 something for the 964RS ones.

I'd be interested if you can get aftermarket ones cheaper, missed a full set on ebay.de last month, they went for £36 for everything needed apart from panels.

I'd really like a go at making myself but at Appbiz's prices, unless I can get the bits at a decent price, I'll be better off a set from Bob complete w/panels

Are the 993 RS door handles the same as this with the metal insert. This car only has the two door speakers and the radio sounds awful. But hey the music comes from the rear. I did miss the arm rest initially (used to other porkers) but ended up using my left leg as the arm rest on motorways etc.
