Default Help with aero mirrors

I have a 1990 C2 LHD and bought it with aero mirrors on the car. The driver's side mirror is hanging down compared to the righthand side mirror, as you can see from the pictures. I suspect that this might be the result of fitting RHD mirrors onto a LHD car? I do know that the base of the mirror can be purchased separately from Porsche and that they do differ for right and left hand drive cars. Can anybody tell me if that is the problem with mine? Or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Hendrik

There is a problem with the mirrors... suspect they are from a RHD car as I had roughly the same problem with my first set of mirrors.

Are you sure these are 911 mirrors? 968 mirrors look the same but have different bases.

Think you might be right.... my bases on closer inspection are asymmetrical and the ones above look identical to each other

I am not sure where these mirrors came from. Looking at your car, is the driver's base longer than the passenger's? Would you also say that my passenger mirror seems to be ok? I think I should only order the driver's base for a LHD car. What is your opinion?
Thanks,
Hendrik

I'm not convinced that either of them are correct. The top of the mirror is far closer to horizontal on mine. I think you need both bases as on mine the bases are wider on the outer side and narrower on the side closes the window than either of your bases.

Someone else who is closer to their car than me (ie in the same country) can probably give you more specific sizes. I'm going off some photos of my mirrors when I mounted them.

Here's one of mine from the front.

I don't have a close up handy.

The right hand side looks about right but the left (drivers?) side looks distinctly wrong. Mine is a left hand drive and the driver's mirror mount looks very different.

Regards

Dave

Thank you to everyone for all the photos. Dave, thanks for the closeup photo. I can clearly see the difference. I am just wondering why the right hand mirror seems ok if they are from a RHD 911? I can just assume that these mirrors are from a different Porsche.
Best will be to get the correct base for a LHD car and check whether they look symetrical. If not, I will order the other base as well.

Thanks again,
Hendrik

Hendrik, take the mirror off and see what part number is stamped on the inside of the base (it will start with 965 or 968). Post it here and we'll let you know what car it came from.

Here is the part number from the US PET: 965 731 241 01 - that's for the left (driver in the US) side. That's the part you need.

I have checked the numbers and they are as follow:
Left - 965 731 241 01
Right - 965 731 242 01

This the same number you said it should be?
Something is not right. Could it be that your mirror base is not this number?
Is anyone prepared to check their mirrors for me?
It is clear from the photos that these parts are not the same.
Thanks,
Hendrik

I still do not get what you think the problem is...

You have the correct part numbers... from the photos I can't figure out what you are saying is incorrect... They still look like the correct part and installation to me...
