Default Insurance renewal (UK)

Insurance renewal came through this morning ... and it's over £250 more than last years price; a total of £990. I'm not happy especially being a year older and having had yet another year of claim free motoring.

Anyway, I signed up to one of those price comparison sites (www.confused.com) and it seems to be getting me a quote from a company called 'Groupama' for well under half the price of my renewal (£436). Has anyone heard of them or used a site called 'MotorQuote'?

I know what they say about things that look too good to be true, but a saving of nearly £500 is pretty hefty...

Megatron, £990 does sound ridiculous. I pay less than £500 in central London!

I've not heard of Groupama but I can see no reason not to trust Confused.com, think they are just an insurance collective with only a few big insurers like Direct Line not signing up to it. Tesco runs something similar too I believe.

If you havent already try A-Plan (01494 677776) and Equity Red Star (0870 111 8963) - I've been with them for past 3 years (but never claimed - touch wood!)

Try performance insurance, they quoted me £440 fully comp on my heavily modified car, that was with restricted miles though.

Groupama are one of the main underwriters - most brokers will have them on their insurmace panels and they've insured my car before. Just ring up any major broker and ask about them if you're unsure.

The price comparison sites are great. If you register your details with www.confused.com, www.moneysupermarket.com, www.tescocompare.com and www.comparethemarket.com I believe you cover c.100% of the insurance market. It's worth it as I've just renewed both my other car and my wife's car this month and saved yet again on already decent premiums. I've saved over £1000 on 3 cars over the last two years....just make sure you look at the small print re. excesses, hire car, legal etc. before you buy to make sure you're comparing like-for-like.

Good luck!

Excellent advice folks. I've got a few weeks before renewal is due, so I'll give all of those a go!

Cheers

John,

I've got mine through HIC (Herts Insurance Consultants). Don't know if your's is modded but mine is quite heavily, all declared, unlimited ATDO organised trackdays (£1K excess) and 10,000 miles. Mirrored my existing bonus as a new policy £700 - best quite I had by far.

Good luck

I'm with Alienz Cornhill via A Manning's PCGB scheme and IMO it is a good policy - worth checking out.
My home insurance is with Groupama. I was originally with General Accident (IIRC) who were one of the companies who subsequently became Groupama.
