Mod'd my p-key

I like to work with wood so I decided to rework my key in mahogany.
I used the original as a model, dropped the light and made it a bit thinner.
I rushed the crest carve out a bit; and it shows. Gives it that hand made look.

Thought you folks might appreciate it.

Cheers,
Dave

I agree. I'll take two. Very Very Cool. Yet another Porsche thing I cannot live without that I didn't know about 5 mins ago! :-))

factory race path?

...and the mod follows factory weight reduction, e.g. the 917 shifter knob:

Nicely retro...

Cool idea.

So you get a woody to start your Porsche... sorry, bad pun.

I also play around with wood and thought about making shift knobs in
different types of hardwood.

I'd take a keyhead in mahagony- if you feel up to making a bunch.

DAVISRILEY Sep 28, 2007 09:17 AM

I also would take one.

Thanks guys!

Wow! I figured there'd be a desire for a couple more, but hadn't expected this. I'll have to think on it a bit. I'm sure I could cut down the head fab time. Mine was sanded down by hand on a belt sander from a larger piece of wood. It was a scrap I had lying around. I then finish sanded the shape with a few pieces of sand paper, drilled the shank and key ring holes. Carving the crest hole took an hour itself. Of course, with practice everything gets quicker. Well, most things :-)

If I could get it all under an hour, rather than the several I put into this one, then it'd be doable. The crest is ~$10. The key blank, I forget, ~$20; I used my existing key. This is just a nice press fit to the head so it's a reversible mod! :-) The wood is naught.

Mahogany all around? That stuffs a biatch to work! I also have cherry, oak, birds eye maple (love this stuff!), canary, african paduk, and a couple of others lying around.

No promises. I have a bathroom that's long, looonng overdue for completion! But, if I manage a few hours to turn out some more I'll let you know.

Oooooooh; Bird's eye would be sweet! I wish I had time to play again.
