Definitely two of my favorite woods. The Birds eye is very nice to work with despite the "eyes". I guess most folks don't like it because it tears, but I find that very sharp hand tools do just fine. The Padauk, on the other hand, likes sharp machine tools. Hand tools tend to tear it up. Though, it really does finish up nicely. What a beautiful sheen it gives.

I'll find some time to do some prototyping with different woods. If I can make up a simple jig to cut the shapes I'm more than half way there. I've already worked out the drilling bits. Then it's just fine tuning my carving skills (of which I really have none!).

I'll let you all know if I manage to produce some more copies.

Thanks for the encouragement!

I'd even take a half-decent beta model

Resurrecting an old thread.

I've played around with the design of the key over the years as my original broke due to over use and high torque turning the ignition. The latest version is holding strong.

I have two available in mahogany and will give preference to the original posters in this thread in the original order. It seems only fair. If they are still interested they've waited an awfully long time already!

PM if you're interested.

Thanks,
Dave

By the way, I'm asking $135 for the keys. There's about $40 in materials, shipping, and paypal fees. Proceeds go to the 911 :-)

Cheers

Any chance at a birdseye maple in natural or grey?
