Oil Cooler Override Switch..DONE
Just put in a over ride switch for the oil cooler..it was cake. I didnt even take out the CCU, really no need to. I just unplugged it from the back, pulled the connector down, cut it, spliced in the switch, put a hot and a ground to the switch and the cooler kicked right in (well, takes about 30 sec). The only time consuming part was I had to increase the size of the hole in the dash (metal under the foam) using a Dremel so the switch would fit. Crazy easy, should have done this sooner.
It's pretty slick, it lights up when it's on..how cool is that?

Thanks, I thought it was better looking and a much better fit than the examples shown on the DIY thread at the p-car.com site

yep, the temp guage was getting into the red zone and the fans were not switching on. I also replaced the thermostat insert a few months ago. The switch is just a precaution as I have to drive (sit in traffic) on I-95 daily. My daughter had my car last month and was stuck on 95 for 3 hours due to a hazardous waste spill..DC/MD/NVA traffic sucks

I have a switch similar to the one in the first post. I am not sure how many posts the Radio Shack switch has, however the switch I have has 3 posts; Power, Load, and Ground. Can anyone help me determine which wire goes where so that I have a light when the G12 wire connection is broken (high speed fan activated) and then no light when the G12 is connected to the oil cooler temp sensor. Or do I need a different switch that has more posts?

Have removed AC and heat on my car and will now remove the whole fan unit, so I have been asking around on how to turn the oil cooling fan on and off (only function left for the CCU).
Which connector do you splice?

Mine had 3 posts also. I'm pretty sure I spliced power and a ground from the radio and the G12 from the CCU.

Use the G12 pin on the CCU.

Thanks. I have finished with cutting room for the switch. Now to get to the G12 wire and power as you mentioned. I am going to verify everything(temp sensor, relay, etc.) is working as well.

If you've replaced the oil cooler ballast resistor and the relay, your oil cooler fan should come on once your oil temperature gets to 9:00pm. If it doesn't, you should replace the ballast resistor and the relay. The relay is a plug-in box in the fuse box under the hood; the ballast resistor is a little more complicated to replace.
I learned all of the above after I noticed the oil temperature in my '91 C2 cab creeping up towards 10:00pm in the aforementioned DC-area traffic.
