Default Rear Trailer tiedown rings

I was about to install some Rennspeed rear trailer tiedown rings to my lower shock mounts but my local Race shop guru recommended against it claiming that they pull the car out of alignment in his experience. I have a 92 964 C2. Do you guys agree with this? If so, what other alternatives would you recommend? Wheel straps maybe?

Thanks and Regards,

Steve

I have these on my car and I do not see how this could happen? Mine are not Rennspeed but simply go on the lower shock bolt. Have no idea how this affects alignment???

Thanks, Steve.

Yeah, I agree, I'd always heard that they are the preferred option. I was quickly talking with him on the phone lining up a tech inspection for TWS in 2 weeks. Maybe he mixed up what year car I have or something. I'll go over it when I take the car in on Tuesday, but wanted to get some opinions from people who use them. He's a well respected expert so it'll be interesting to see what he has to say.

I also have mine attached to the lower shock bolts. I don't see how this would have an effect on the alignment.

I also have them and have trailered with them a couple of times with no obvious problems. I also know a couple of club racers that use them to tie down their 911's on trailers. However, I will say that I've wondered about this because the traditional method to strap your car down is to cross the rear straps in an X. I would think this would create something of a sideload on the rear shock mounts when it is tightened down. But I was hoping it wasn't enough force to hurt anything.

I've got the autometrics ones that attach at the lower shock bolt. Used them for 5 years without issue and certainly no alignment problems.

I have used the Autometrics tie downs on the last 3 race cars & wouldn't use anything else.

I've been using the Rennline ones for two years with no alignment issues whatsoever.
