Default Do new tail lights need seals (for a '93)?

Between looking through the archives, and talking to Pelican, and Sunset, I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question: if I replace the tail lights in my '93 coupe with brand-new units, do I need to purchase (separately) new rubber seals?

BTW Sunset Imports seems to be the lowest in price at $177 left and $158 right (+$268 for the center reflector)...anyone know if they are cheaper anywhere else?

Thanks,

Will

No. The lights come with the appropriate (but updated) seals.

I haven't seen any cheaper....actually that's a very good price. I may have to see if they would ship to Canada....they are close to double that price up here.

I've just bought a new tail light which is the updated version. It did not come with any rubber seals. I'm currently waiting for the two new seals to be delivered as I found the seal off my original unit (1990 model) was not good to use with the new one - the unit did not fit well and I could only get one turn on the locking screw.

I'm reliably informed that the new units have a later design of seal and these have to be used (there's an outer and inner seal). Yet Jason's post suggests I'll need to use the original design of seal. So I'm confused again!

I'll post back when the new seals arrive to report if they work or not.

I just replaced the tail lights on my 3/90 car and reused the old seals since they were fine. It is a BIG hassel to get the seals off of the old units and silicone them to the new ones. If I was more patient I would have ordered new seals but once the lights were in the house....they were going on!

When I replaced mine, it did not come with seals. To me it did not look right, and did not the gaps, so I purchased separately the seals. Whether or not the seals are necessary - if you get condensation water in lens the answer is, yes. For me, it was more of an aesthetic look.

My seals have just arrived. Having seen them, I'm quite shocked that two little pieces of rubber cost £13.95 (nearly $28)

Isn't the standard Porsche markup about 75-100x over the cost of raw materials for plastic and rubber components?

I replaced my lights about 4 years ago, and they came without seals. I never added any.

I got the below response from Sunset today, so I guess he is referring to the ones boxsey has the pic of above. Odd that they have the lenses in stock, but the seals are special order. I guess I'll get them, as I'm out of town, and am trying to get a bunch of parts ordered so when I'm back over the 4th of July I can stay occupied with some relaxing car work.

Not the kind that go all around the lense like the early 964's. Yours show just one on each end, so they are about 3 inches long and go vertical. $6.64 each, times 4 and added to the quote I did. 30843. Special order also.

When I replaced mine 2 years ago, they came with the new seals already so no special order was needed (Pelican Parts).

Those are not the seals for the early cars. They go all the way around the lens.
