Default where have all the 964s gone

have just looked in the classifieds of the latest 911 and Porsche world and the 964s for sale in there can be counted on one hand , that includes the dealer ads as well.
I have just pulled out a 4 year old copy and counted at least 20.

Do you think people are just buying them as toys and keeping them stashed in the garage ?.

Also do you think this will have a future impact on the resale price of our beloved 964s ?.

I noticed the same thing while browsing Ebay for 964s... they seem to be disappearing at a much faster rate than they are reappearing... People finally figured out what performance bargains these cars really are

Something is happening with them, maybe the cost to own a new NA 911 approaching $100k and $145K for a turbo has something to do with it. NA 993's are still a bargain at mid 30's but considerably higher for TT's, $60 to $80. Worse with the 964 turbos, seems that the average price for a low milage 3.3 liter has jumped up $5 to 10k in the last year and in the $70 to 80 range for the 94 Turbos. 5 speed 930's with descent milage are starting to look real good these days.

I am in the market for a 964 too. I bought a C2 coupe in '04 with 40k miles and a clean PPI for $22k and invested another $2k in a complete tune up and shocks/struts. I sold it to my father a year later and he still has it (now 70k miles and running well.)

I wish I could make that same buy now! I see very few coupes for sale now that are reasonably priced.

They are all heading up to Canada.....our dollar is 94 cents US, and the demand for the 964's is pretty high here. I bought mine two years ago from a dealer that was exporting exotics from California.

My 91 964 Cab is worth around $28,000 to $30,000 USD up here....what's it worth in California....maybe $22,000 USD?

That's a good profit margin, especially if your are exporting 6 or so at a crack.....

I have seen a few 94 turbos for 50K range on eslay within the past few months. Would love to pic up a 930 turbo for the track though. Once selling for 20K in my area.

me too thinks this is an international trend. VEry few in trditonal media for sale down here. Always boxsters, 996's, and some older 911 built 70's 80's.

Maybe its a cycle. People come in by em, hold em for 2-3 years, then sell em. Im just about in beginning of yr 3 now.

Or maybe they are just great value.By the way, I met a guy last weekend wh had a 911T 1969 he said his was worth $A50k due to rarity in RHD form- about what a 964 is worth. He made an interesting comment as well. Said the 911T weighed about 1050kg so still went pretty quick and handled well, but it also caught fire once when fuel leaked out of the carbie. Woooh!

Here's a good forum question- for the same money do you buy A vintage 911T in good shape that's nealry 30 yrs old but is as rare as hens teeth, or a near vintage 964 that's 15-17 yrs old for the same price?

I think I know my answer

The bigger issue with the old cars is the rust weakening an already flimsy chassis.

Yep. Life without a Porsche was more than I could handle. I am going through a "Urban life" crisis. Basically decided a high-power car in the city is worthless. Bought a Cayenne for daily and want an aircooled for weekends.

But I only want a C2, no C4s - don't need AWD.

Have you tried the Porsche Classified Network - Not sure how up to date it is but its another option for a car search.

I agree completly the original premise; I purchased mine 4 years ago because I thight the price was near bottom, it is now a toy that sits in the garage.

To enjoy a 911 in Texas you must have AC! So 964 was my solution to the problem. I will be buying a T, but for vintage racing once I get finished with the Fiat.
