Oil Line Question
 

I have seen this topic posted a few times but I do not know if I have seen an definate answer. I am replacing the oil lines that run from the thermostat to the Oil Cooler and I neglected to take some pictures of the old lines before I removed them. I have read that the normal diagrams of this part sometimes show the connection of the hoses backward from the way they should be installed. I have read that the inside line from the thermostat (I am assuming the one highest up on the car) connects with the outermost spigot on the oil cooler (the one that is closest to the tire). Is this correct???

You should have 1 long hose 7" or so and 1 short hose 3" or so. The long hose connects the rear most (towards the tire) spigot on the thermostat with the rear most spigot on the oil tank. The short hose connects the front two. Be aware that there are 2 different front hoses depending on which model thermostat you have, one looks like an 'S' and the other is just bent in a shallow radius. Make sure you have the correct on.

From thermostat to oil cooler, there are two lines, each has a long metal tube and then a reinforced rubber section. There is no way to get them mixed up. The inner, lower pipe is the shorter and goes on first. The outer, upper, longer hose goes on second. If you switch, the incorrect tube does not have enough bend to get around the forward jack point.

hi-- just a comment-- that has to be the cleanest oil thermostat i have ever seen. what did you do to get all of your car soooo clean???? tom

simple green. I had the same comment after someone posted their pics. I went out and bought it and it works wonders. I will be doing the entire underbody soon. car has 180 k on it. It is my daily driver.

Just a word of caution on Simple Green. It contains a mild acid. I used it for years on the fender wells on one of my cars and after a while the shinny paint became cloudy and dull. I would not use it on a regular basis but for a one time clean up it is great.
