so let me get this right.. 964 Carrera Cabriolet
The manual for my 1991 964 C2 Cabriolet says I should not leave the top down for more than 24 hrs. Am i reading that correctly? Anyone know why?
This really is not cool due to the fact how much fixing the parts cost on an older Cabriolet. So, everyday in the summer I will need to put the top up and down at least once a day. Dang it!
I'm a little sensitive on this due to the fact I have just place two new top cables ($200+ each) and one Convert top motor ($600+).
Just like anything, the more you use it the more likely it's going to bust.

There are two issues -- first, the rear window gets creased across the center if you leave the top down for a long time, and the crease doesn't really go away once the top is put back up. The second is that the top fabric "contracts" when left down for a long time, and when it's put back up, that fabric is forced to stretch quickly, causing small tears in the sides of the top, above the top-rear corner of the side windows. That being said, I've had my 964 cab for over 6 years now and the top stays down during the summer for weeks at a time (in the garage every night, of course), creased rear window and minor tears be damned. If you're concerned about the motors failing, you can disengage them and operate the top manually (read the owners' manual for the instructions on how to do so).

Ours has the top down most of the time also, and other than the window (which you can pillow stuff to reduce the crease) issue, no problems yet. 2 yrs now and top down most of the time.

Agreed with JJJMCD. I'm getting older and am getting less and less **** about stuff like this. I use to unzip the rear window prior to opening up the top, now I just let her rip up and down without worrying about creases, small rips etc., Just makes life easier I guess. I just rubb some black silicone on small tears just to give it some support.
BTW, anybody have a quick fix to be able to run the top up/down while the engine is in idle??

I keep the top down on my C4 for several days to weeks in Summer. I put a piece of material under the rear window and over it as it folds. make sure the window is dust free inside and out. The material I use is the under tablecover insulation you can get in household stores its like compressed felt and works very well. When putting the hood back up do it in stages to allow the hood to stretch and position itself before finally clamping down. Put the hood cover on (tonneau) when its down to keep dirt out - and it looks better. If your car doesn't have one Southbound in the UK can supply.

If you trully love your Porsche 964 Cab you ALWAYS unzip the rear window when you put the top down. You will never get a crease if you do that.
Other than that I leave mine down for weeks at a time and never have problems.

If you had seen my drive home yesterday you would know I know who the boss is. Same goes for that Ricer STI and the built 68 Camaro that I left behind somewhere around 135 mph with the top down mind you.
