Exclamation Crazy Wipers! Has anyone else had this problem?

Today on the way in to work it was raining (in Seattle no less) and I had the wipers going for miles using the intermittent setting.
After maybe 30 minutes, suddenly the intermittent behavior stopped and the wipers just stayed on.
When I switched it to the off position, they stayed on, when I tried the fast position no real change, back to intermittent - they still stayed on.
So this was not a real problem since it was raining - but they would not turn off. I could just see myself on the next sunny day with the wipers going like crazy...
Eventually as I got to the parking garage I could get it to stop if I fiddled around but the wipers are not being sent back to their off position once it stops.
I can't look at Adrian's book since it is at home... anyone else run in to this one? How difficult to fix? The wipers have worked fine in the almost year I've had the car.

Thanks all!

Here's to sunny weather!
Best, Brad

I had some trouble with search originally but I narrowed it down a bit... sounds like a relay problem with the intermittent control?

man i do not want to hear that it is snowing, agian.

hopefully it will be gone by Sunday when i get back from 90+ India

sorry meant to talk about the wipers as well - more than likely it is the Int relay circuit which is fused open, i would repalce the relay first, the move on to the other causes.
the other issue could be with the speed control **** on the dash being bad (harder to get to).
or the control stalk (although i do not think this is it).

The weather is supposed to improve over the week-end - but it is just like dead winter again. I couldn't believe it was snowing this morning in West Seattle...
Thanks for the clue.. I'll check out the relay.

Thanks, Brad
