Bilsteins w/OE Springs

Bilsteins w/OE Springs
I am installing Bilstein HD's on a '90 C4 with OE springs. Is there any way to get the front of the car back down to OE ride height? Local club rules require OE springs to remain in a stock class. I was expecting the car to be about 1/4" higher due to the gas pressure, but it is about an inch higher, even after driving the car a short distance. Of course, the rears are adjustable, so it's not a problem.
Thanks for the ideas...........

One option is the "lowering" perches, which look like long collars, where the spring seating surface is considerably (1 inch?) lower than where the perch is threaded and attached to the damper. Don't know if these would be legal or not. Just be careful that its not so low that the spring doesn't slip around when the wheel is fully extended downward.
Other than that I'd say bottom out the fronts, and raise the rears, as much as possible during a corner weighting. Then you'd REALLY need another alignment - hope you haven't done that yet.

I can't imagine that just a change of struts would raise the car by an inch. After all, it's the springs that control the height.
I hope you're at least using the M030 springs. I believe they are considered "stock". If you need some, let me know, I have a couple sets.

Hi,
Crank your spring perches down until you get the ride height you want. If that still does not work ( it did not for me) then I would recommend going to coil overs like PSS9s or Cross. I eventually did that and though it costs more you can get the ride height you want. Oh and whatever you do, DO NOT CUT YOUR SPRINGS TO LOWER THE CAR!!!. Good luck.

Do you think they will check if you use ROW M030 springs? If you can find a pair they will sit about 20 mm lower.

I have ordered some Bilstein HDs ( Carnewal) and plan to try them with my stock springs on my 3.6t . I think they are ROW MO30. Hope i dont have to gain any height - i will post results soon!

I thought the ROW M030 springs could not be used on the 90 C4 without significant modifications. I think this was stated in Adrian's book. I'm planning to convert to Bilsteins HD's as well this spring and change out the OE springs to Eibacks but would prefer ROW M030 springs. I think the earliest 964 that is designed to take a M030 is 91 or 92. Any clarification on this.
