Cool A 3.6 liter engine is really all it takes.....

Just watched a new DVD with the story behind the Itsfun3 Porsche.
The basis is a 911 from around 1978 with a 964 engine.
It has biturbo and with racing fuel and a boost pressure of 2 bar it delivers 1023 horsepower. They normally run it with normal fuel and a lower bost pressure so it deliver 750 horsepower.
0-60 mph 3,4 seconds.
0-125 mph 8,9 seconds.
The video is really great starting out with dyno test and the extensive rebuild of the car (I think the only thing they don't change is the angle of the windscreen!).
Then it proceds with dragracing, circuit racing and a superstage test.
The great thing about the car is that it is also street legal, and they actually dive it to the circuits It's great to see a Porsche being used all around..
The video ends with a lap at Nürbügring....
Even though I'm just a Dane living in Schweden, I still thought I would share with you guys what a couple (15+) schwedes can manage to pull of.
You can see a trailer of the video here: http://www.getawayinstockholm.com/if_story/if_story.htm
No affiliation... By the way, the people who sells the DVD is the same one that sells the Getaway Stockholm videos, but at least this one is legal...

Those are some impressive numbers. A little way to go to match 80s F1 turbos
at 1000bhp/litre ! but in fairness they were not driven to the circuit !!

Mike,

These guys really pushed the envelop, their project is really interesting to follow. In fact there were some posts about the development here on Rennlist and on Pelican I think. Very very interesting stuff. The lap around the 'Ring is really fun to watch, I really enjoyed it.

One thing that does not show on the DVD (perhaps) is that the engine blew at the 'Ring!

The other thing is that my 3200lbs car with less than 650 hp (my est.) did a 62-125mph in 5.5 seconds, the same as this lightweight 1000+ hp monster. One should take HP claims with a grain of salt.

Wow sounds like a great project - any chance that someone knows an online video link? Lol shame about it popping at the 'ring tho!

Jean,

They never claimed that they ran the car with +1000 bhp, they just measured that while the engine was on the dyno, with racefuel. I think they squeese about 750 out of it normally.
I didn't now that they trashed the engine on the ring, the DVD left that part out But it showed a pretty wild spin, where they almost trashed the whole car

Barry,

You can use the link I supplied earlier http://www.getawayinstockholm.com/if_story/if_story.htm

What kind of car was the red one that he just could not get by and always seemed to out accelerate him?

When I saw the laps, I thought that I drove a bit odd for a Porsche driver. He never accelerated out of the corner, but once the turn was finished he put the pedal to the metal. It seemed a bit novice like.
But later on the DVD when they are getting prepared for superstage, they say that the diff is not suited to the car, because in every turn one wheel spins if he touch the gas, so that is why he drives a bit strange. If you notice carefully you can see that he's problem is that he is slower out of every corner than the rest, but the quickly reach most of them

1000bhp/litre really is astounding. I mean, even these Top Fuel 85% Nitromethane engines don't make much more than 1000/litre.

Just shows what you can do with a 4 valve head on top of a 1500cc BMW 4 block together with a BIG KKK turbo running 4.5 bar pressure.

Honda/Renualt used V6 motors but the BMW was the best. I am biased as I worked for them at the time. If you take a look at one of these motors it looks so simple but just shows what some very good engineering can do ! If turbos come back to F1 ? just wait for some stratospheric numbers.

My significant other has a BMW, always will, and I have a Porsche. Good thing we have both, really. Isn't the inline-6 that BMW makes the same basic design layout since the 1930's? Good designs last forever.
