Default Ugh! Stalling . . .

My oil was overfilled at a shop and the idle has gotten progressively worse over the last thousand miles. This morning it stalled several times on a six mile round trip.

I'm confident that it's a fouled ISV as the symptoms are identical to the last time the oil was overfilled . At the same shop!

Ugh! It's bitter cold here. That last thing I want do is go out to the garage and clean the ISV and, likely, the intake manifold.

Sorry for the rant, but this kind of thing just pisses me off!

Find another shop or they'll do it again.

I don't care how good the shop is I still get that feeling of dread when I leave my car there....Porsche that is...minivan not so much.
Sorry for your pain, I bet it's just the ISV.

Ask them to use their warm shop so you can clean it and use their tools.

Yeah, I know. Shame on me for even going back at all. They are a well respected shop, but I've had bad luck with them. And, they are almost four hours from where I live. It's convenient to my sister-in-law's and my company's headquarters.

There's no good solution. I just have to suck it up and move on.

Did you call them and ask , whats the deal ?
I would think they would maybe offer a flat bed and a little repair .

Working in an unheated garage during winter sucks. Don't worry about cleaning the intake manifold until spring. It's the initial overflow out of the tank that ends up in the ISV and anything remaining will be below the throttle.

I called them. They seemed a bit reluctant to believe that I had an overfill. I mentioned the gauge and was told that the gauge is no good, you have to check the stick. In fact, my gauge works great, and I did check the stick. Yesterday I drove into stop and go traffic and got the car hot. Not real hot, but as hot as it's been since this cold snap hit. Stalled three times getting into a parking space an hour ago.

I'm off to the garage for a bit of cold wrenching . . .

Thanks for letting me vent.

Jason,

Thanks! That was timely and welcomed advice. I've been dreading pulling the intakes. The ISV is pretty simply to get to and clean.

I feel better already!

More than 20 years ago I pulled the transmission from my moms pinto in the middle of winter in an un heated garage . She put motor oil in an auto trans . I should have just lit the thing on fire .

"I mentioned the gauge and was told that the gauge is no good, you have to check the stick."
Can I get this guys name and phone number ?

I've cleaned the ISV and have been for a test drive. All is well again.

Given this may not be a solution for those in the extremely cold climates, get yourselves one of these Heat/AC Units. Mine is made by Whirlpool, about $400 at Lowe's. I really bought it more for the AC as I live in Texas, but it's been great this winter having the heater. When the Temps have been in the low 20's F, I've been able to maintain 70 F in a standard 2 car garage. I did a little weather stripping around the garage door that helps. With temps in the low 30's F, it gets toasty. There's also another one with even more BTU's than mine for about another $100. With the Heat and AC you have a year round comfortable working environment. My wife says all I need to do now is buy a Futon and I can live out there.
