Default 17” to 18” wheels and offsets reviewed again

The Cup 1 wheels on my ’93 964 have offsets of the 52 front and 47 rear. These are on 17x7.5 front and 17x9 rear wheel sizes. I want to go to 18” wheels and I have an opportunity to get some that are 18x8.0 52 offset and 18x8.5 45 offset. The 52 would fit the front and the 45 would fit the rear (I assume??). I have seen recommended wheel sizes of 18x8 for fronts and 18x9.5 for the rears. Is there a reason why there should be 1.5” difference between the front and rear wheel width or is it mostly for looks? Also, is the 2mm difference in offset a big deal on the rear going from a 47 down to a 45? The 45 offset means the wheel sits more outward, toward the fender edge, correct?

I haven’t looked at tire sizes yet.

Hope this makes some sense….
