Default Racecar Project - More CF Bits

I reinstalled the engine and trans New Years Day after adjusting the valves, completing a leak down test and generally looking over the engine. I also installed the straight pipes and am going to go back to the dyno shortly and retuen the engine to run with the open exhaust. I have a 4 position switch on the dash that I wired to the ECU for multiple maps. I'll save my current muffled map in one spot and will load the new unmuffled map in another. This will allow me to swap back and forth without having to reload the ECU with a new program. I expect to restore the 80ft/lb torque drop in the midrange and gain another 20rwhp based on my experience with the Lime Rock specific mufflers and 3.6/3.8l engines.

While the engine was out, I took out the Rennline Design pedal board and track mat, both of which are very nice pieces and I highly recommend them. I had a friend who is a CF fabricator for Dyson Racing (I know, they are getting Porsche Spyders soon, I can't wait too) make new pieces out of carbon fibre. They are lighter and work better with the lightweight look of the car. Don't worry, I'm not going to start measuring weight savings in terms of grams...although I wish I could...

Looks awesome - almost a shame to get them all scuffed up :-)

The CF parts look nice. Can I relieve you of those old heavy aluminium parts?

Hehehehehe.... I was thinking more along the lines of... "I am positive you had that company make a few more to sell to the folks here in Rennlist..."

So, can your friend make a few more and sell them? I would like a set

Sweet! Reminds me, I have to go to the bookstore to get the latest issue of 911 & Porsche World (I think that's it) to catch the second part of your racecar article.

Jamie, I wouldn't really feel right copying Rennline Design's parts and selling them. Duplicating ones I've already purchased for my own use is one thing, but profiting form another's work really wouldn't sit well with me. Sorry.

Fully understand. No worries. They do look nice and I wish Rennline would pick up on this and provide a set in CF.

They would probably not be cost effective compared to the aluminum parts.

Since I'm old fashioned and can't work with metal or CF, I always end up with the OEM wooden floorboards.

Here is the pedal board and the floor mat installed in the car. Once I have evrything sorted out I will replace my wooden pedal stop with a carbon fiber piece

Geoffrey: Reading your posts is a real love/hate issue for me. I love what you are doing and it looks great. I hate that my Turtle is a pig that weighs so much more than your car (and just don't want to spend the money to get down to that range - yet). I guess I need you to keep posting so I can keep adding to my wish list to give to the shop ... when I win the next MegaMillions drawing I'll be able to have the work done.
