What exactly is this car? It is now legal in PCA C class, and I wonder what it would take to convert my RSA over to one? The lighter weight and 3.8 motor sound appealing.
I just wanted to know now. I can't wait to get home to check it out in Adrian's book.

Another Euro only.... but someone must have imported one and asked PCA for it to be classed.
Its the "street" version of the 3.8 964 Carrera RSR. Has the turbo wide body. Would be a major effort to update/backdate to meet PCA rules.

A 964 3.8RS is an 964 RS chassis with a matter cage (RSCS option) and seamwelding but with a turbo body. It has the M64/04 RSR 11.6:1 compression engine with MAF rather than TPS for an "advertised" 300hp. Aluminum doors, hood, new 3.8RS wing, thin side window, free flowing exhaust. 5spd with RS gearing and 40/40% locking diff. Wheels are 9x18 and 11x18 with 3.6 turbo brakes. It weighes 2668lbs. Somewhere between 20 and 100 units were made.
It is basically a street version of my car.

Everything I have read about the car has said it was aluminum and judging by the cars built around that time, that would make sense. I don't think carbon/kevlar was used until the late 993s and 996s.

I had the factory RS aluminum fenders, hood and doors on my 74 RS clone. Although they were lighter than the steel parts they were heavy gage like the fenders on a 928 and I doubt would drop the weight to 2668.

Kevlar parts were certainly fitted to race cars by various teams if the specific racing regulations permitted such parts (Konrad and Larbre certainly did this), but the homologation models and the factory delivered racing standard was for aluminium hood and doors.

It was quite easy to flare the original raw stamped rear panels before they are welded. The same process was used for the 964 Turbo, but the RS 3.8s were assembled at Weissach not on the factory production line with the Turbos.
Ciao,
Adrian.
