Need advice on jacking up a 964

Andreas,
Very clever. Have a question, not sure what is meant:
"I go to the rear again and raise the stands another hole to get the car level".
To raise the rear stands do you jack the car up in the rear again ? TIA.

mo,
Regardless of how much I adjust the rear, it's only done to bring it up the same height as the front. I'd rather not raise the rear as high as possible during the first placing of the jack stands. But yes, I simply lift under the case again until I can raise the rear stands to where I want them.

I got my car jacked up yesterday. I put it on the stands in front by jacking at the rear jack points and then used the engine to jack up the rear. The AC stands make it a breeze and are really solid. You'd have to try really hard to upset it. Here's some pics.

Greg,
The jack stands are available from Pelican Parts (no affiliation). I bought one of their floor jacks and love it. I've been thinking of getting these jack stands myself.

Greg, From this and other threads you've posted in recently, sounds like you and I are both going to be putting our cars on stands for the first time. I'm going to use the traditional get the front up first and then use the engine to get the rear up. I'll be doing a (first time for me) brake job and brake flush and bleed, installing a cup bypass, oil change, transmission oil change, engine cleanup, oil leak inspection, etc.... We'll have to stay in touch. I'm using 4 of the AC hydraulic flat top stands in the attached picture. They are kinda pricey ($179/pr), but I like you don't want to take chances under the car and these seem like they'd be pretty safe and stable compared to the traditional axle stands.

Just in case you haven't seen these. You could use them to raise the car and then still use conventional jack stands if you want the wheels off.

Always thought that these were pretty neat. Though pricey, and you only get one height out of them.

Related: You can sandwich a hockey puck between the rear engine tray and the center rib of the engine. Then center your jack beneath the hockey puck. With a rubber pad on the jack saddle, you can safely lift the entire rear with the engine tray in place.
So you end up with: jack>pad>engine tray>hockey puck>engine.

I contacted Bill and they are $265/pair + shipping, truthfully I was hoping for a little less. He mentioned that he sends you a Paypal invoice and ships the stands as soon as payment is received. Here is the additional info Bill forwarded:
∙ Lift Stands are made of 12ga. steel and have a black durable powder coat finish.
∙ A lift stand dimensions are 11”wd. x 18”lg. x 8"high. The extended height is 13.5 inches.
∙ The inside section of the top tire pan is 11"x11"x 1.5" deep.
∙ The locking pins are spring loaded, and made with .375 inch stainless steel.
∙ One stand weighs 35 lbs. with a maximum load rating of 2000 lbs.
∙ Four stands will support an 8,000 lbs. vehicle.
∙ Any floor jack that is less than 12 inches wide can be used.
∙ Warranty is 1 year on product to be free from physical defects in material and workmanship.

Im sorry to ask this question, but is it safe to raise the rear of the car from the engine using stock OEM motor mounts? I keep reading posts that contradict each other.
I need a definitive answer before I ruin my mounts, thanks for your help!
