The carbrella fastens with suckers , so you could only drive at very low speed. But its great for some
security and keeps the dust and sun out when parked. Bought mine from automotion , i think it was about
$140

I have a old 911 sc coupe a late 964 turbo coupe and a 964 targa,, the only car I would want to travel in on a very hot day is the targa.
The coupe is a lot more rigid at speed, but my targa is a lovely place to be on a warm day, fresh air above my head and the exhaust rumble through the open roof try a targa you'll be surprised.
I used to laugh at the ugly targa years ago, but now I've bought into it,, targas rock go drive one on a nice day you'll want one..
Gaz,,

with my heated seats and very little turbulance its great on a cold dry day too , and people treat it
like a classic which adds to the relaxed driving pleasure.

Wow...It's been a long time since I originally wrote this thread. In fact..I wrote it about a month before I purchased my Targa.
So I will update you now with my results after 6 years of Targa ownership.
If you are a Targa owner, I've got a few questions.
*Did you originally want a Targa?
No I didn't..wanted a Coupe.
*How do you like your Targa?
I love it now. Its pretty versatile. On Sunny days its great to take the top off and go for a drive and I can take it to PCA DE events without having to put a cage in it (like maybe I would have needed to do it if was a convertible). Kids love going for drives with the Top off
*Have you had a Coupe or Convertible before and do you regret getting the Targa?
Don't regret getting the Targa. I've done a lot of work on it myself so its been a great learning experiance too. It sounds good, smells good and feels great. Unfortunatly its in storage now as I am on assignment in the UK for a while but I can't wait to get back pop the top off and throw the wife and kids in it, and blast off on a Sunday afternoon drive!!!

I believe there is more room in the back than a Cab for the kids as there isn't a top to deal with. The Targa bar provides a bit more rigidity than a Cab (for handling and safety). The rear glass on a Targa is massive and allows the kids to see more than a Coupe or Cab.
Note: I love a Coupe, Cab and Targa but could only have one. It doesn't do everything perfectly but it does most things very well.

Burning Brakes
If I lived in Marin County I dont think the top would be on my car too often...its hard to watch it sit in the garage...this is the first year in many that it is not my primary transport...few more months till spring..I hope..

I've always been a coupe fan for 911's but when I decided to get my first 911, I was already looking for a GT500 Convertible, so I decided to go the Cab route. I saw a LOT of Targas for sale. I was tempted but stuck with the Cab.
When I was in my first year of college, I dated this girl from Georgetown in DC and her mom had an '82 911 SC Targa that she used to let me drive. At the time I had a '76 MGB and the 911 was a huge step up. Ah the memories.
