I'd never thought much about steering wheels until I bought my new gti the other day. It has a 3 spoke and it is quite becoming. Problem is it has a spoke right where I like to have my hand sometimes: right at the bottom of the wheel. I drove my 964 today for the first time in about a week and I was so much happier with the ability to put my hand there.

As with a lot of things I'm probably the only nut who drives like that.

Am I right in thinking that any Momo wheel will fit with the right boss? I picked up an RS lookalike on Ebay listed as for a subaru. It is a deep dish wheel - the boss is only very thin. All the bosses I have seen are at least 3 inches deep. Anyone any ideas on whether the deep dish will fit, if so what is the right adapter?

That's a beautiful wheel: I want one!

But how on earth do they justify charging $795 for it? It seems an awful lot for a wheel, or am I just too new to the world of Porsche parts?

Marc,
Ive read almost all of the steering wheel posts recently as I dont like my stock wheel and want to change it. I had a Momo Monte Carlo on my 951 non airbag car and liked it a lot. I am down to a ~$795 wheel like you have, or the Momo Competition wheel with all parts and Porsche horn crest for ~$350. I notice in the past threads you bought a non airbag Momo wheel and then decided not to install it and get the GT airbag wheel. Im curious why you changed your mind. Im struggleing with the same decision. ~$800 for a new wheel is a lot of $ but Im trying to justify it by telling myself its still got the airbag and I dont have to disable any of the airbags in my 964 because I will probably buy the cupcar jumper which disables both the airbags. Thanks for your thoughts. By the way you have one of the best looking cars on this site.

Thanks for the compliments on my car but I'd trade it for Cobalt's 964 Turbo in a heartbeat.

I posted my reason for deciding against the Momo here. Basically it comes down to the effects it will have on my insurance as, while I use this as a DE track car, it still has to be a daily driver too.

I still have the Momo and, once I win the lotto, I will put the Momo in my stripped track car and keep the GT wheel for my street car.

The airbag is fitted into the central space after the wheel is attached and secured using two Torx screws (T27, IIRC) from behind. The US$795 price includes the new airbag.

Marc,
Thanks for the quick reply and link to the insurance discussion. Since my car is a street car I think ill follow your lead and get the GT wheel. I sure do like the Momo Competition though. I agree with you on Cobalts 964 Turbo, its a great car too.
Thanks again.

Decided on a Club Sport wheel - I love the chunkiness of it! Handles like a dream too.

Where did you get it? I've seen them for sale at a few places - some with the Porsche badge, others with the embossed logo like yours.

Last time I looked, Design911 were the cheapest at £199 for the badge version and the 964/993/996 boss.

btw, the Club Sport design is my favourite too, I just think it suits the interior of the 964 perfectly.

Jaime, nice looking wheel.
I'm one of the crowd, I have a Clubsport wheel and very pleased. Mine's grey, matches the seats.

Came embossed but I brightened it up with a coloured badge (although its a 356 style metal bonnet badge so if I ever had an accident and hit it, it woud probably give me a scar on my forehead embossed like the Porsche shield...or it would kill me!). Insurance implications?
