Default Help choosing between 91 and 92 964

I have a tough choice to make between a 91 steel grey 964 coupe and 92 black 964 coupe with roughly the same miles and same price.
Both cars are in good condition. What do you guys think is the better car for the money? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jonathan

The 92. Aero mirrors, head gaskets, LUK flywheel. This is all assuming the 91 isn't a late model with head gaskets and LUK flywheel of course. Either way the 92 with same miles/same overall condition should logically bring nore $$..

I would leave it up to the PPI to tell you which one. I lean towards the black one though, while hard to keep clean nothing looks better than a black 911 right after washing.

Drive them both hard and see which ones responses the best to your liking. It's all in the feel.

The black car just says carrera on the decklid instead of carrera 2. Is that right?

The grey one. No matter what it costs you. The grey one.
Disregard everything else. That colour is one of my favorites.

I second Gary's thoughts. To find out if the '91 has head gaskets get the engine serial # and then do a search here.

I've heard white is the new black - but I've not heard anybody mention grey!

It doesn't matter how much of a bitch black is to keep clean, 'cos none of us let our 964's get dirty anyway. So you should definitely get the black one - and it's a later model.

But - I would be paying more attention to service history, recent clutches, tyres, bodywork / interior condition etc. etc. than what colour it is.

Dave is spot on. Your initial post stated "all else being equal" but it never is... If driving and a PPI says all is equal then I would still say go with the 92 at the same $$.. Get some Zaino and go to town!

I agree with Gary. In the 3.6s engines from 1989 through mid 1991 the cylinder heads were mounted without a head gasket. So, they will leak. Never mind the color buy the 92.

. . . so they may leak.

I believe the concensus is that if it has not leaked by, say, 50k miles then it is likely it never will.

Also, the head gaskets were added in 91 so the car may have the head gaskets. Check the engine number. If it is greater than the one posted above then it has the head gaskets.

Still, 92 is newer than 91, but the real issue is condition and maintenance history. Then, of course, which one speaks to you when you drive it and admire it.

It's a fine problem you have there! Many on this list would love to have such a dilema!

Cheers,
Dave
