Default Wheel and Tyre sizes..

Well the wheels are nearly complete, I know I've spoken to Andrew and others regarding tyres sizes, but wandering to my favourite site. Chris's car bible has left me slightly confused.

I currently have 205/50/17 and 255/40/17 tyres giving an overall circumference of 2000mms all bar the shouting.

Now on the new 7 1/2 and 9, 18" rims I'm playing with the sizes to keep that overal 2000mm circumference come out at 225/40/18 and 255/35/18.

Does this look right to all of you?????? I was given to understand that I would be looking at 225 and 265 profiles by many folks I've asked....Wanting to make sure has confused the bejesus out of me....

So do I go for the 205/255 combo? or the 225/265 combo which are smaller by 25mm or roughly 1%

Oh and here's a pic.

TIA

Kevin.

I also have 225/40-18 and 265/35-18 and it has not caused any problem with the ABS or PDAS.

Cheers folks,

Andrew did suggest 225/265 as a combo, I guess I was concerned at the level of % out I could be from original without disturbing the ABS and speedo etc, but as you guys are both doing this ok, I guess that's what I'll plump for.

Kevin,

Mine are also 225/40 and 265/35 albeit on slightly wider wheels (8.5J & 10J). General consensus I reckon.

The most precise set up is as follows:

225/40/18 .68% taller than the stock 205/55/16
255/35/18 .92% taller than the stock 225/50/16

The 265's are 1.79% taller so you can see the 255's are clearly a bettermatch.

I realize this is generally frowned upon but.. begeezuss.. those wheels look hot on the car! I want a set of those. Will one or both kids be going to community college in exchange for a set? *drool*

Sleder,
For me the tyres are Bridgesone S02 N3 IIRC.

I went for the rear 265 in the end after debating the issue due to maintaining a ratio of front to rear size difference, and not having the car too over tyred on the front, having had the car geometry altered and with this setup I can definetely feel that the rear of the car is more alive, I reckon if I'd have gone for a smaller tyre on the rear, even given the rolling radius diff I would have been inducing snap oversteer, something I don't want on our wet greasy roundabouts, I've had two goes at it on 17's, it's not funny.

Thanks... 265 would probably work for me without any spacers. I am using 52mm offsets with 275x35x18 Hoosier
