Default How much more power after an engine rebuild?

I'm interested to find out from people who have had engine rebuilds how much more power they thought they got.

Not in figures but in driving.

This question excludes major mechanical fails as these wont be pulling at all!

I'm on 120k and thinking it will need some work doing soon.

Also think I'm a little down on power over the last 40k. It drops no oil and no real smoke from tail under power that can be seen.

If I top end it, what sort of results would I get for expense?

If I did the whole lot, same question?

Guess it depends on your budget for the rebuild.

If you rebuild to stock specs then you should theoreticaly get stock hp. However "while you're in there" inevitably occurs and hence the amount of extra hp will depend on your budget. If you give 9M £20k you'll end up with 360hp

I'm in the same situation, my engine is tired and is smoking a little and I know it needs a rebuild but my head is spinning with the different permutations available.

I'm not looking to spend a small fortune so its a like for like or stock rebuild question.

Is it down on power or is it just that you are not impressed with the power anymore ?
If you find a 30 - 90 time and then test your cars 30 - 90 time , is it off ?
If you rebuild a worn out motor the new motor will feel great , if you rebuild a good motor the power gain is not going to be much . So it might be good to do a test or two on the motor you have , to see whats what . A leak down is a good test , road test of 2nd gear to top of 4th is a good test . A run against another stock C4 ....

Try the ol' chip, full exhaust and MAF intake route after your rebuild. For $4k you can get about 30hp.

Have you had the compression checked? If you have OK compression, you will get negative power increase from a stock rebuild. That is because there will be slightly more friction in the new engine.

You are leaking no oil - better than most already. Beware of a "budget" rebuild. It is easy to screw up an engine rebuild, and then you will have spent a lot of money to make the car worse.

Another suggestion - take it onto a rolling road to get the hp measured.

Don't even think about a rebuild until you know something is wrong.

Leakdown test in addition to the compression check will tell you more about the engine condition, and also give you an idea of where you are losing compression (rings or top end).
