Default fluid noise at start-up

I'm a new 964 owner (93 c4) and I am hearing a running fluid sloshing noise coming from in back when starting from cold. I assume its oil being dumped back nto the tank. Doesn't happen when the engine is warm or hot.
Is this normal?

Bern,
I sure hope so ! Mine has done the same for years . Loudest on first start after a week of inaction .
You will get used to the funny ways of these cars !

All the best

Thanks - that's a relief to hear. I've had other 911s with 3.0 and 3.2 and not heard this.

it's the oil tank in the right rear fender...engine oil pump pressurizes and sends oil back into the tank...perfectly normal. need a louder exhaust!

I've read that the lack of (or degraded) engine shroud thing makes this more pronounced. I can hear mine at idle. I don't "think" its anythign to worry about it.

Exactly what I said to my mechanic....it sounds like someone flushed the toilet upstairs and the water is running through the pipes between the wall. LOL....

I've heard it this morning in the 3.3 ...really sounds like something is flowing and gurgling,,,but you have to be very attentive to hear it...

I consider it 'almost normal', in that after a service I sometimes get it and sometimes don't.

It must, therefore, have something to do with the technique for changing the oil - perhaps one method introduces more air than other methods?

Norma. Technically, I believe the "gurgling" sound and the oil flowing to the front of the oil cooler is due to the opening of the oil thermostat.

On my original oil tank from 1989 i had no noise at all but on the swap some years ago the standard tank is now a 993 unit - like many parts - the oil gurgled like hell - really p****d me off but my dealer said - tough !

Default Gurgling

Thanks for the replies - I can't believe that Porsche would find this noise to be acceptable as it really is loud and obvious. When I was showing my teenage daughter my "new" ride she laughed at these start up noises which I tried to dismiss...... Still love the car though and she still thinks I'm wierd...........
