help with purchase?

New rennlist member here As many have said before the Rennlisr site is the best.
Have never owned a Porsche before. Have been looking and gathering info from this site for many many months. Have narrowed my search to a 91 - 93 964.
Have a few questions about a 91 C2 I will be looking at this weekend. The car is a 3 owner car with no records to speak of. Is it possible to trace back to see if clutch plate has been replaced? Also how do you interpret info from the engine number to determine if build date handles head problems? Last question. Its a California car. Does that mean it has a bunch of smog and emmision stuff that a non-Calif. care would not have. If so does that make it a less desirable car as far as maintenance or resale?
Any info would be a great help.
Thanks much

The engine seal fix was on engines after 62M06836, M64.01 (that is, non Tiptronic).

The US cars had the same output (247 hp, 228 ft lbs) for all 50 states. Being a California car will not decrease the value of the car. It's typically stated that CA cars are very rust free due to the great climate and that is always good for resale value.

Good Luck!
