For $12k you can get a 3.9 kit installed in your car (S. Cal), and shipped back to you (trailored). This will get you a good amount of power and torque, and is something very similar to what Porsche raced (proven enhancement). I would spend my money there if it were me. But at the same time, the SC would be fun also.

From my perspective, instead of investing in the supercharger I would save a little more, sell the 964 and buy the turbo version (964 if the price was right or late 80's). I luv a fat ***! (p-cars only please)

"Besides, we need a few extra HP just to keep up with the modern cars."
Modern cars got nothing on my car . When I'm cruisen along , they may be faster off the line but I'm just going fine . So very very fine .

Other cars vs my type of car
Cheap hamburger vs a picnic in an alpine meadow .
Punk with a new drum set vs Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest .
A dip in the watering trough vs a sail on a wood sloop .

How about both? How about a 330 bhp 3.9 litre 964 narrow body?

: )

If you are asking me , I really don't use all the hp it has now , so buying more doesn't appeal .

Myself... I'd like to have a sleeper. Plus the fact that I know my car... It's all sorted and perfect. I'd rather not take a chance on buying another car when I know what I already have. I know that adding a supercharger throws a big question mark into the equation... But I'd trust TPC's reputation to make the right decisions. (Plus they are very close to me.)

Indycam does raise some good questions though. TPC says that as long as the engine is in good shape overall that this would be just a bolt on enhancement. It's seems to me that to really do it right, the engine would need to be taken apart for different cams, pistons and the like. It would be nice to build a different engine so you could just swap it in and save your other engine for something else. (Or for the next owner if there is one.) I thought about starting to buy parts and building one in my basement. (And then hoping I could get it out of there!) But to do that would add another $5k - $10k.

This debate surfaces about every 3 months or so.

I am with you on this one ... I have all I can do to handle the 250 hp around these parts without constantly brushing up against the law ... but if that is what floats your boat puma ... go for it.

In the uk $12k buys you a tricked up secondhand subaru impezza with 300 bhp.
Keep the 964 and buy a pocket rocket that wont break the bank if it blows up.

I noticed this Poll while browsing the rest of the TPC site asking what Porsche you drive...let's represent our 964 pride LINK Look on the right hand side of the site. Right now it looks like the Boxter folks are in the lead.

Talking

Seems good advice is given already, buy the 3.3T or the 3.6T and get an engine / brakes / suspension built for the boost......or a very large slippery slope looms. Oh yeah and you get the phat *** also.

will an aftermarket blower really change the value?
I think it would. Would any of us have bought our cars if they had superchargers already installed? I wouldn't have but that's just me.
How about the 9M cylinder head package? 350hp NA and a totally stock looking engine bay. It won't interefere with maintenance and talk about a sleeper! Search for the "993 engine upgrade" thread on the 993 board. But hey, it's your car and your money so you do what you makes you happy.

Kris... I know... I love the look of the turbo body. I couldn't find one when I was originally looking. Well, one that was in good condition with low miles anyway. I'm of two minds. I know what I have now and that my car is in perfect condition. I'm not sure I'd want to go through sorting another car... But some would say that is part of the fun.

Yup deja vu for sure... This topic comes up every three months like clockwork.

Hey Kris...
That was great, reading some of the posts of three months ago... I had no idea how much I knew then, and three months later it looks as if I sing the same song. "Idem for Rick and a few others"... Just goes to show how devoted we are to our beliefs on what should, and what should not be to done, to a Porsche’s "Heart and Soul"... No one can ever question our integrity to those that ask our advice... We believe in our own words...

Has anyone heard from Ron, "The Puma 1824"... "What will he do"...

Just came back from a day in Italy... Saw a new some sort of, Red Ferrari...
Very special... But boring!!..

From here,
Marc...

PS. "Thanks again Kris",. you are so good at finding anything, related to anything on Porsche!!..
