Wow, $13,700. Did you buy it? I can't wait to have my own 964 and first Porsche.

Sad thing is I have to sell my bimmer to make this happen. Everytime I look at my e38, I don't know if I'm ready to let it go. I just finished washing it and it looks awesome. But I want my 964 too... why can't I have my cake and eat it too?!

Can anyone please shed some light as to why the 964 prices are so drastically down compared to older 911s? After reading some posts in this thread and the prices I've been seeing from poking around in Craigslist and/or eBay, it seems like mid to high teens will get you a decent 964.

Having said that, are the prices still plummeting? Are they bound to rebound? Just trying to figure out why they seem to have depreciated more than their older siblings.
These cars have always been cyclical. Currently all Porsche's and exotic cars are falling in price. F360's are dirt cheap as the new Ferrari is being released and the value of F430's fall. The 993 is down to what a 964 was 2-3 years ago and the 996 is so cheap it is taking over as the car of choice for DE junkies. As the 993 and other cars drop in price it impacts the value of the 964 since many cars are now available in the same price range. The older 911's fall into a different category and are being purchased by those that grew up wanting SC's, Carrera's etc and the early long noses are becoming collector cars since 73 RS's are unobtainable. They also make a good platform for some classes in club racing so nice condition older 911's have not been as impacted by the economy.

The 964 has hit bottom just as the 996 has. Eventually you will see their values increase as fewer nice cars are available but when that happens nobody knows. It might take a few years or a different administration to see the increase.

I didn't act fast enough, as I'm still hemmin' and hawin' over a local car that would be the same price, factoring transport.. The distance/loc was a killer. Too far for me to fly and drive, and transport was more expensive. I could get a car trucked from the Bay area cheaper than LV.

Anthony, I agree with you on your assessment. I don't know if the 964's can go any lower, but you might see some compression with all the years in a narrow price band. Unless I find an absolute steal (a little closer to home), or buy the one that's been sitting at the dealer (a waiting game as winter gets closer), I might just wait until about the middle of winter.

Chip,

Excuse me for butting in on the conversation but I would be interested in your '93. I live just west of you near London. Do you have your car listed on line anywhere? Thanks.

Mike,

I'm just getting around to posting it in the usual locations - Rennlist was my first choice. I'll be up at Mid Ohio all weekend with the PCA, so it will be Sunday before I get it out there.

PM me for more details. I live in Pickerington if you want to come and see/drive it.

Dinner? You need to take that man to the best strip club in town, and treat him to a few lap dances.

Comments:
Obviously a Garage Queen for much of her life, this two owner car was purchased from a "collector" by the Pre-Owned Manager at Hennessy Porsche in Roswell Georgia. The car came with one key; no books, no manuals, and no history. Hennessy completed the 30k service (~$2,000 and included in the sales price!), removed two very small dings, and re-dyed the leather on the shift *** and seat bottom bolsters.

Shop Foreman with 38 years Porsche experience said its the cleanest 964 he's ever seen. Mechanically completely sound - not a drop of oil anywhere?! A/C blows ice-cold, tires had almost no wear, not a mark on the wheels, and brakes have at least 10k miles remaining!

Replaced dead Head Unit with Pioneer 710BT (Bluetooth for the cell phone thru the radio is the only way to go hands-free!) and new speakers all around (but maintained existing cut-outs).

Includes 8-way power seats (driver and passenger) and rear window wiper!

What a find! A dream come true!

PS - Anyone know where I can find an owners manual (and service manual too)?

Chip,
Sorry I didn't see your post. Nice car. Thanks for letting me know, but I'm definitely a Targa/cab guy, and need a manual. My 996 was a tip, and that was enough for me.
