I expect most of us are into the porsche "lifestyle" because we love the car, and the pleasure that driving our car gives us is its own reward. For those lucky few that entered on the ground floor, theres a cherry on top, which you should see for what it is, a very quick elevator ride to the top floor and a windfall profit on a dream. If we could all live off of this, nobody would have jobs in "corporate" and the daily grind would be a daily dream. In my opinion, people sell their dreams only because they need the money, regardless of the price. So unfortunate as it may be, we may lose money on our cars, but how do you put a price on living your dream?

Is 30-40k life changing for those buying those cars? probably not.
Bought 20, "worth" 50... is that worth getting all wired up about?
Not really.

My hope is that a cooled off market will reduce the likelihood of a professional thief targeting my car.
Whether my car is worth $30k or $60k is not going to change my life.
Now if you want to talk about a hot market google the Vancouver housing market.
Here lots of folks are retiring nicely on property that has increase 3x or more over the last few years.
This is for a 33X100 foot lot.
"You may have heard about this recent run-down property that was listed in the Vancouver market for a cool $2.4 million. Well, that Narnia-looking abode has officially sold...for $80K ABOVE the asking price."

At the end of the day if I HAVE to sell it for some reason, I'll be able to get out having essentially paid nothing for it. As mentioned, for most of the "regular" 964's we're not talking about life-changing value increases.
I just look at the current market as a way of justifying to my wife repairs and maintenance. "Yes, I just dropped $1100 for X Y and Z, but the car is worth $20 grand more than I bought it for".

New to me...1990 C2
Hi!
Just bought this 140k car for under 30k. The car has a 2 reported accidents in 1991and 92, book with 45k worth of receipts, top and bottom rebuilt at 75k, new clutch at 130k, etc... all the way from 1994. I added B6 with coils, new drilled brakes, good to go. My mechanic gave me a muffler bypass and its so awesome WOW.
I will definitely restore the car (already at the body shop))). Love the driving experience vs a 996TTS. Love to hear some thoughts about the car and its price. My tech said that I have LSD option. No leaks (weird). I have to agree that its a blast to ....... drive!!!

I'm getting feeling that slump in car prices is coming, similar to housing burst that we just had ... See link below. Of course it will affect new cars huge 1st, but I won't be surprised that collector prices will get affected.
One way or another buying at current peak prices may hurt.

Agree, but when theres big drop in big market it always ripples in to smaller nishes.
Often it is just general mud change from bulls to bears. Pple panic and change priorities. Looking back at housing - after all pretty much everybody got affected.
But no matter what, when I learned that people pay $50k (well take 6 year loans) for bmw i3. Just dont fits my mind, unreal, rally, even if its made from dollars. Car market really bubbled up

964 Search
This forum has been very helpful in my search for a 964. I have always wanted a 964 and recently sold my 1980 SC and started the search. My plans are to buy a less than perfect 964 as I plan to build a track car, not for racing but open track days. I have located a 1991 C2 SR Coupe that looks promising. The car is needy as it has been sitting for close to 3 years and smokes heavily when started, smoke gets worse as it warms up, my mechanic says it likely needs a top end rebuild. It is a rare color, Amethyst Metallic with tan leather, although I plan to convert the interior to RS style door panels and LW RS style black carpet as well as black Recaro's. The point of my post is to determine value, any help is appreciated and please let me know what other information is needed to value the 964. Here are a few pictures. The pictures make the car look nicer than it is, it has paintwork on most panels...

Looks like a great car to start with; I'd say $30k is a fair private party number. Figure you'll spend $20k to properly sort it at a shop...but you will end up with an example that is worth quite a bit more. I had a 968 in the same color; I loved it....others had mixed feelings.
