Default Replacing 1 Button CCU with newer 2 button - hurt value?

Does replacing the original one button climate control unit in a 1990 with the newer and better 2 button hurt the value at all?

Anyone interested in a 57k mile 89 C4? One owner car. Not perfect but very clean. Car is owned by the original importer to the US for Ruf and is full of Ruf goodies. Car comes complete with all original parts and extras at an asking price of $47k. It might seem pricey but the extras add up. No oil leaks heads have been machined to accept rings with $11k in receipts.

Let me know if interested I would be happy to put you in touch with the owner. This is one worth consideration if you want a nice C4.

No affiliation with the car but looks like it might be priced okay if it really is a manual trans and a nice car. Posted on SFBay CL for $32.5k:

Apologizes for being away. Family issues always tend to take over your life and what little time I have I try to go for a drive to clear my head. =P

Latest spreadsheet updates from sales ONLY POSTED IN THIS THREAD. I didn't go to the trouble of scouring ebay but I suppose I could start doing that on some level moving forward. Also, if anyone hears about any other sales, it would be greatly appreciated. Currently 2015 is looking really REALLY sparse but that might be because the sales between people that aren't on the forums or privately. Again we are just looking for datapoints but there have only been 4 cars listed as sold in 2015 right now and its more likely that a lot of cars have been sold in that time.

sounds steep to me but hinges on the engine rebuild- who did it, what was done. If a full teardown was done by a known-good shop, that's big money these days and should impact the price.

I'd agree though if all the big items are done (motor, AWD system, clutch) the numbers may be in line.

In comparison. I'm looking at an '89 C4 as well. 152k miles with nothing but basic maintenance done. Top end was done but is leaking again. Clutch done at 100k miles. It's priced just under $25k USD and is black on black. And there's a decent size list of things that it needs done to clean it up with regards to minor maintenance. I think the motor and AWD system overhaul put you about $13-15k down. Clutch $3-5k ??? This car I'm looking also has no working AC, power steering doesn't work, some minor repainting and is missing some bits like the engine undertray.

I've started to heard mileage means nothing when it comes to the value of these cars unless you have a really low mileage example. It's all about the maintenance and current condition. And although the more desirable cars are '91 and up, '89 and '90 cars are still fetching good money considering there's not much available out there.

The Stable in SF is a first class shop for air-cooled Porsches. They serviced my 964 when I lived in SF in the late 90's.

stable is very well known here in SF. it also depends on when stable did it. the shop has now diversified to water pumpers. but bck in the days, it was a premier air cooled shop.

mistress in silverlake is also an air cooled specialist. the owner posts on 997 GT3 board often. however, my brain is failing me. i cannot remember his handle at the moment.

I'm curious on opinions on Tip prices? My preference is a manual but have seen some Tips at competitive prices. Is it fair to say any appreciation of prices will be at a much slower clip than a stick?

Seems like TIPs sell for ~$10k less than the equivalent manual counterpart. Owning a less desirable transmission might pay off in 20 years when no one under the age of 40 will know how to drive a manual. If the manuals go up in value they will pull up the other 964s as well, but just like you said probably at a slower rate.

Thanks. I didn't realize the gap was quite so big. The other question I was wondering about is, is an older year 964 a bigger factor on price than mileage?
