Ignition Trouble
Hey All,
I have a 964 C2 running like sh*t. It backfires, hesitates, and revs up slowly. Driving it fees like the e-brake is engaged. I have new caps and rotors, ignition wires, installed a 3 weeks ago and it ran fine until lastweek. I check the dist. belt and its fine.
I orignally thought it was one of the coils, because when i'd pull off 1 of the lead coil wire that goes in the center of the distributor it would start while the other didn't.
So I bought new coils and installed them, it drove the same. After researching, I start to play with the coil switch located in the bracket that holds the coils. I pulled coil switch(1) out and left coil switch(2) connected and it started. I took coil switch(2) and placed it on coil switch 1's slot and it started. But when trying the other coil switch in the same process the car did not start when connected to either slot.
So I think I've isolated the problem to one of the coil switch part bosch # 0 227 100 124. I called the Porsche dealership and they want $189 for one.
Is there any way to fix the orig. switch? or does anyone know of where I could get one cheap?
Thanks
GP
btw does this diagnosis look right?

Hi,
I don't know anything about the problem you have, however, I believe the part is an Ignition Control Unit, part number 928 602 706 01 and is available from Pelican Parts for $88.50 for a Bosch and/or $29.50 for a Hueco unit. There are photo's on the site to make sure it's the right part.

Hi Indycam,
Got the part today, Made by Huco, looks better than the original Bosch.
To recap here's what I've done:
New wires, caps & rotors, spark plugs, car ran great until last week. Car hesitates, back fires, and runs as if the e-brake is engaged. Motor revs up slowly.
1. Bought new ignition coils, replaced and still has the same symptoms.
2. Found that one of the ignition coil switch Bosch #0227100124 was not working. Swapped the switches with the connectors, found that the engine will start with switch (a) in either connectors, while switch (b) would not start when connected to either connectors.
3 Got a loaner ignition coil switch from Indycam to test, plugged it in along with my working ignition coil switch the engine would crank but not start. So i pulled both switches out, tried my original switch and it started the engine regardless which connector it was connected to. Now with Indycams loaner switch when plugged into either connector will not start...
I'm confused~@#$%^
Before the engine would start up with both orig bosch coil switch connected in place. Now using the working orig coil switch and Indycams loaner Huco coil switch (looks new) both connected, the engine will not start.
I disconnected the loaner part and left my orig coil switch connected and the engine started, while running i decided to connect the loaner coil switch, when I connected it the engine dies.
I'm really confused, need help
Indycam thanks again for the loaner, will get it back to you asap.
