Are you spacing?
Now that I've lowered the car, I want to bring the wheels out just a touch. I know the topic has been covered, but what I'd like is pictures of different cars with spacers. I know my wheels have to come out a bit...
I'm running 993 Targa wheels and have NO plans to change.
TIA

I just bought a set of 996 Chrome Twists... 55mm offsets front and rear, 17x7 and 17x9...
Supposed to fit without spacers... hope so
I will post pics when I get them on!

More confusion?
Couldn't you remove the wheel, lower the car down to ride height, then place the wheel in the well where you like it, and take a measurement from the hub to the back of the mounting surface.
Would that be an accurate enough measurement for a spacer?

Duncan, have you ever thought of writing a Porsche Enthusiast's Guide? What I like is that you write so few words, but you capture the theme, and solve the problems in an easy to follow logic,. For a "Garage Racer", like myself, I appreciate your writings,.. Best Holidays to You and your Lady,...

Thanks for the responses, but I'm visual. I need pictures guys....I measured, and I have 1 inch left before the wheel would be outside the arch. I know i could use 7mm spacers, and it's been suggested, I'm just not sure what they look like. Please help

Hawk - one VERY important thing to keep in mind is lug length. On a stock 91 C2 we put 6mm spacers on to move a set of 17" Boxster twists out a little bit and at the same time (luckily) were moving to open steel lug nuts. Problem is only 1/2 of the lug nut caught threads with the spacers in place, so they are useless until he changes out all his lugs to ones that add about 3/4" of thread. Now I have no idea how much lug bolt is showing with your wheels at the moment, but it's something to consider..

I have a set of "Boxster Twists" on my '91 C2. The offsets are 55 on all wheels.
I first used the stock aluminium lugs nuts and all was fine. I then purchased a set (4) of 6mm spacers installed them and put the aluminium lugs nuts back on. Looked real good ... brought the tires out nicely.
In the mean time I had purchased a set of open steel lugs nuts to use on the track, so I decided one day (about a week later) to put the steels lugs on. Well, after tighetening the steel lugs nuts down, the lug was only 1/2 way threaded in the nut ... WHOA !!!
Off came the spacers ... I re-installed the steel lug nuts (instead of the aluminium one) and the lugs are now just flush with the top of the steel nuts. I will be, sometime in the near future, installing longer lugs so that I can re-install the spacers.
I know others have said that they have installed 55mm offset tires with spacers and have had no problems ... that may be ... I am writing this to just say ... aire on the side of CAUTION and checking with steel lug nuts would be prudent.
PS ... LOL ... I did the switchover at Gary R's garage and the both of us dropped our jaws on the floor when we saw how far the lug nut threaded onto the lug.

Wow Slappy that must have been a bit of a shock. Better safe than sorry when it comes to such vital parts. Still I would love to see some pictures of the different set-ups, Adrian says some modells can go to 17mm in the rear with appropriate longer lugs. Tx.

Kris, I just called on that serice bulletin from Adrian's bible. The bulletin basically says any wide-body models can use the 17mm spacers, but none of the narrow body models can. I wish someone was close that had set of 4mm or 6mm spacers so I could try them before spending the money. Anyone?

Thanks for looking at that TSB Hawk, I was indeed wondering what was in there. We'll just bump this thread until we get to see some pictures.

Hawk - Ref pics - go to thread " Suspension Installed" scroll down I sent in some pics of my car with 15 mm fron and 18 mm rear. I did get longer wheel studs and install - 75mm is a relative easy job. This should give you an idea of what you are looking for - I normally run a 205 frt and a 255 rear - but increase to a 225 frt and a 275 rear for aurtocross on turbo twist rims - all 17" - The front with the larger tire does rub on the inside body panel rear area only - under high spped tight corners the rear tires have rubbed on the suspension arms and the right side muffler - but very minor -hope this helps
