Empty weight of a 964
Weighed my car today with a 1/4 tank of gas and the following weight reductions:
-No mats
-Removed everything removeable in the boot (spare tire, pump, tools, first aid kit, lug wrench, jack, plastic covers, carpet, reflective triangles)
I think I probably pulled about
Car weighed in at a svelte 3050lbs. That seems really light to me. And it made me happy that my porker wasn't all that porky after all.

As Steather says in his book, you can get more value for money from weight reductions than many dubious (in his view) performance improvements or mods to the motor.
That's about a 7% weight reduction you achieved?.
To get a 7% power increase you would need to get anor 12 kilowatts.
current kg/kw ratio is 7.9
reduce weight 7% - 7.3
add 12kw of pwer no weight loss - 7.4
Wonder what else can be done to rece weoght by 20% and get the ratio down to about 6.5!

The 964 Euro Cup cars are weighing in at 2530 with a pretty empty tank at the end of a PCA enduro. My Turbo car was 3050 lbs and I can tell you, the first time I drove a Euro cup car on the track, I could not believe how much lighter it felt, how much better it braked, it turned it, everything felt better. This was the catalyst to build my car which I hope to come in under 2100lbs.

Yeah, it was a real eye opener to me to see how the car felt even with such a slight weight reduction. Removing even that little bit of weight (most of it from just ahead of the front axle) made a difference in steering feel. Of course, I have absolutely no evidence to back that up other than my initial impressions during the drive to and from the scales, but it felt like it made a difference.

At the end of a spirited run, we had our cars weighed at a certified scale. With a 1/2 tank of petrol, the weight without driver registered at 2,830 pounds! Not bad compared to some of the Carrera's (84-89).

My car feels completely different when the weight goes down - the car is a lot faster when I'm almost out of gas - that 50 pound reduction makes a big deal! I always try to make it so I barely have enough gas for each race - a couple times I have run about 5 laps with the low fuel light on!!! Super fast!
My C4 racer is 3000lbs with 1/4 tank of gas, full cage and fire system! And all body panels and glass are stock! But as Geoffrey said - it's not nearly as tossable as my 65 911 that has a weight of around 2000lbs! Too bad composite panels are so darn expensive!!!

My car is 2816 with 1/8 tank of gas ... or it was a week ago. I'm in the process of ripping out all the padding and carpet. I'd love to get to 2650 before I have to replace and body parts and swap steel for fiberglass. (The sunroof is next.)

Tom,
That is pretty light considering you still have the padding and sunroof. I deleted my sunroof, padding, rear seats, rear shelf, replaced stock seats with two race seats, RS door panels and carpet, added full roll cage, lightweight flywheel, no undertray, GHL headers/exhaust, removed trunk carpet, removed heater blower, and that's about it. All glass and body parts are OEM. I'm sure there's more I can do; i.e., AL hood and doors, remove under coating, replace retractable tail with CF RSA tail, etc.
Do you know the weight of Andial's Cup Cars? I think our cars now weigh less than an RSA and maybe similar to a Euro RS.

John: My car is pretty bare already. All HVAC is gone (including the CCU and the AC bracket from the engine, just not the bits behind the gas tank yet), Recaro race seats (back was carpet only), no extra heat shielding on the engine and now just headers with minimal mufflers, RS door panels (but still have all the windows and motors), fiberglass engine lid and aftermarket RSA tail, and no radio or other extra stuff on the dash. It has extra weight from the cage and fire suppression system. It will be interesting how low I can get without too much time, effort or money.

weight
I just finished making my car more track ready. I corner ballanced the car with 1/2 tank of gas and the weight was 2700lbs. I have done the following
remove rear seats, sound insulation in engine compartment, sound insulation under rear shelf, rear seatbelts, replaced stock seats with two race seats, RS door panels lightweight flywheel, no undertray or inner fender plastic, B&B headers/exhaust, removed airbags, removed trunk carpet, removed power stearing, removed weight from rear bumper support, remove engine compartment heater blower, replaced stock suspension with Racersgroup coilovers (rear shocks now alluminium). All glass and body parts are OEM. I have added Big red brakes and 5pt harnesses on both sides, am curently runnng 17x8 and 17x9 Cup I wheels and still have A/C.
I know i could be lighter, if i got some lighter wheels I could loss 10lbs a wheel. I still have rear deck with speakers (35LBs), gut the front bumper support. I could do these things and be at 2600lbs with 1/2 tanks of gas. Pull AC and rest of sound insulation and be at 2500. I still drive the car on the street so I dont want to lose to much of the convienance equipment. for comparision my 78 SC track car weighs 2450 with 1/2 tank, I have to bolt in 75lbs of weight and put in the spare to meet weight for Club races.

Last time I checked it weighed 1171kg 0r 2580lbs or thereabouts with no fuel.
I reckon there's another easy 80lbs in there and then things start getting tricky and I might have to go looking for some more power.

Wow, Tony, yours is a featherweight. What have you done to get it so light? Do you still have A/C? In your avitar it looks like you have a cage, is that 1171 with the cage? That's impressive.
