Running Lean (faults Internal Control Unit and Cylinder Hall Signal)
Hi
Just changed out my coils and one HT lead (Other was only a year old) and put in a new battery. This was to try and fix the Xmas tree lights which seems to have worked.
Now the car runs rough, have to give it plenty of pedal to get it to move and balance to clutch to stop it from stalling.
My mechanic has turned up two faults the "Internal Control Unit" and "Cylinder Identification Hall Signal)
After a reset the car will run fine but when restarted it reverts back to running lean, low Carbon Monoxide and Dioxide readings. The car is pretty much running on fumes at the moment.
Your pearls of wisdom please, he has been through a number of areas but lets here them anyway.
Cheers

I'd put the old coils back in and see if it made it better ?
If it started running bad right after it was worked on , I'd look at all the things that were done to it .

Hi
Ok I have been to look at the car and driven it.
It has been serviced but still runs with a hesitation. The car has had a full diagnostic on it.
The HT system has been checked on the computer and is showing no spike even at the lowest level.
Everything is within tolerance except to low carbon monoxide levels, which shows that the fuel is not being burnt.
All suggestions welcome.
My xmas lights seem to have been solved but now the high voltage seems to have moved and is making the car hesitate???
Thks

Disconnect one ignition system at a time, i.e. unplug each ignition module.
This will isolate the potential ignition problem to the upper or lower plugs,
as the problem you describe is most likely ignition related. These cars are
very very sensitive to ignition RFI the result of any faulty element:
1. ignition wires
2. plug connectors & those not installed properly
3. caps & rotors
4. coils
5. ignition modules
4. bad plugs
The above problematic elements are generally what causes most 964 poor running
problems and strange fault codes.

Ok how stupid do I feel.
One of the distributor caps was the wrong way round and therefore firing in the wrong place.
Replaced the cap with a new one as it had marked the inside of the cap.
Problem solved. Just happy it runs good again.
