help please...spark plug wire install

Hi all. I did a search, but I couldn't find the info I need. I am replacing the wires on my 90 C4 and have hit a road block...
The wires that run up over the fan shroud and under the AC cond. bracket have me stumped. How do you feed the new wires through the tight area under the AC bracket? Any tips would be appreciated!
Dave

It's been a few years since I did mine but I seem to remeber having to remove the compressor bracket.

Hope this helps

Yes, I am tempted to remove it too, but it almost seems like an engine mounting point...not quite sure how easy it would be to remove it...
any other opinions out there?

I remember reading something in this forum about how not too easy it was...and with some solutions.

At that time i was looking for advice and made a search on a christmas tree syndrom and one guy had to change the all the wires...
i'll try to get more info.

cheers.

hoping to try to put the wires back on tonight, if anyone can help with advice on the tricky area? Please?

It appears from the attached image that the lead/cover comes off with a single screw. Is this the bit you're after?

Cheers,
Dave

Dave,
I see what you mean, but no, that's not it. The new wires actually come in a new cover, but on the right side of the engine, the wires sneak under the bracket for the AC. That's the tough spot.

Hiya drb007
Do you know that the boots unscrew from the wire ?

Wachuko 11-06-2005 09:49 AM

Don't touch the wires... and no need to remove the bracket. Let me get you the link to my thread... with the A/C compressor out of the way the wires can be installed without removing the bottom part of the base...

Here you go:

Changing Spark Plugs Wires

Reading the diy again I should have added a better description of the process to the thread... :banghead:

Thanks for the link. I had actually printed that out before I started the job. However, I see no possible way to get the big connectors under that AC mount bracket. I used Indycam's advice and unscrewed the connectors from the wires and slid them through no problem.
So far I have adjusted the valves...simple and fun job...don't know why I was worried about that one.
New plugs and wires, caps, rotors, coils, DME, belts, fluids, filters.
Now I have to hope it starts!
Thanks for all the help!
Dave

Jaime: not to hijack the thread, but how do you remove the connectors to the coils? Do they just simply pull off?

Indycam says that they screw off.

Sorry, I just re-read you're post and you are asking about the coils not the plugs.

Once you remove the plastic black covers:

Yes, you pull up/off the cables/wires.
