Post Oil leak

I have a leak from the Hose coming from the Oil tank to the engine. I was quoted a price of $450 dollars for part only. It looks like the connection from the solid tube to the flexible tube is leaking. Does the muffler need to be removed to replace the hose? I just had the 75K maintenance performed.

Thank you
Paul

Hi Paul,

I have the same thing on my 90 C2. It's not bad, just annoying. Let me know what you find out on this. I will probably be doing it soon as well.

I am almost sure you would have to take off the heat exchanger and muffler to replace it.

That price seems a little steep for that hose ! Couldn't the flex area that leaks be replaced ?

Hello

I think you can work without muffler removal.
The fresh air tube has to be moved away.
If you are there then also check all other oillines.

Hi Paul,

I was looking at a muffler ad for B&B. They supply you with a replacement hose for their system. It is a braided line that has the connections on it.

This would meke the replacement a breeze - just pull the old one off (maybe cutting the tube to keep from having to remove anything) and route the braided line between the oil fiter and the lower case.

I have eamiled B&B to see if they sell them seperately, if not all I would need is the sizes for the two connections (I think they are 30MM) and I can have some made up in the shop here at work.

Tom,
Hi Tom,
I am not sure what sizes the connections are
but the flexible part connects to the solid piece which then connects to the engine. I believe the other end of the flexible part connects to the oil tank. There is a foil shield which goes over the flexible part that protects it from the heat. I am not sure how to find out the size of the fittings.

Thanks

Pictures always help. Here are most of the oil lines that run from the tank.

Here are the oil breather lines

By the cost you are quoting, I am guessing it is a pressurized line with fittings and they are always expensive. Shop around - you should be able to do better than $400. You might also check to see if you can get one used

Hello,
I finally got the C2 up on jack stands and
looked at the Oil tube going to the engine from the oil tank. I believe that the heat exchanger on the drivers side needs to be removed. I have read some replies about breaking the studs on the heat exchanger. Is this Job better left to my mechanic ? I am able to get the oil line from Pelican parts for $375.

Thank you

Paul:
If you are going to do this I would start the car and get things warm. Spray some WD40 on the exhaust studs. Remove the final muffler and then primary. I would then remove the complete heat exchanger, cat assy, out as a unit (both sides). By the time you spend breaking the bolts to the cat and getting frustrated, go for the 12 exhaust to head nuts, and drop the whole thing. Then you can clean your heat exchangers. I've dropped it in less than 2hours. Good Luck

Before you buy the oil line, call Hendrick Porsche at 800-315-8193. They discount 20%-30% and often end up with the lowest price. No affiliation, just satisfied customer.
