Bill, thanks for your reply,
Does this mean that the car had a new clutch installed then? I am not sure what the "repair kit" term involves exactly. Would it be just clutch, or include the flywheel as well, or slave cylinder...?
Also, what does the release fork do?
Basically, I am trying to find out if the car will need any clutch work done on it in the near future. By the way, both the above coponents were changed about 6k miles ago.
Thanks again

Riccardo,
The clutch repair kit consists of a pressure plate, a clutch plate, and a release bearing. Clutch release fork works with the release bearing.

Sounds to me like your transmission is good-to-go for a long time--assuming it shifts nicely and the clutch works smoothly .

Thanks Bill and Randall,
It does seem like my clutch will hopefully behave itself in the short to middle term!
Only thing that has now got me worried is a thread I have been following on the 993 board about noisy clutch cables leading to master cylinder replacements (how expensive would that be to fix?).
I think I am just being paranoid. The car is going in for a service next Wednesday. I know I will already be spending a fortune on that, and I hope there will be no added "suprises" (like need for a new clutch costing £900). I will probably feel much calmer once the ordeal is over!

Hey Riccardo,
Well, as I wrote over on the 993 forum thread, I don't think a squeaky slave cylinder is anything to be concerned about. That's provided you don't have any transmission problems like a clutch pedal that won't come all the way back up when released.
Myself and at least one other person I know have had squeaky slave cylinders for a long time now--isn't hurting anything (mine has been squeaking for over 4 years). The squeaking can be stopped for a short while, but it will come back. A snip from an e-mail I received from my friend with a squeaky slave cylinder:
"The squeaking (in my car at least) seems to come from where the rod in the slave cylinder contacts and pushes on the lever (?) that operates the clutch. We sprayed some lube on the end of this rod, and the squeaking diminished. When the lube wears off, the squeak returns."
Oh, and if you hear the squeaking coming from near your engine, that's the slave cylinder. The master cylinder is directly below your clutch pedal, and doesn't seem to fail often.
A new slave cylinder isn't expensive, relatively speaking. In the $200 (parts and labor) neighborhood.

Randall,
Thanks for your input, I also read your post on the 993 board. I almost think I can let out a small sigh of relief, until Tuesday when it goes into the shop.
If anything, my noise is more like the second one you described, it comes from near the engine, so that would be the slave cylinder. Maybe things could also get better after the service, as I am getting the brakes and gearbox oils bled / changed.
I shall keep you posted on progess. I am also hoping to get some piccies done soon and to give a little story on the background of my car.
Cheers
