Problems getting Porsche parts

I'm trying to get a new tank filler Y-pipe for my '91 964. These are notorious for leaking on some of the '964 series. In any case, I can't find one...everyone seems to have these on back order. When I tried to get my service manuals about 6 months ago a lot of them were on back order at various dealers (independent or not), and to the best of my knowledge still are.

Is Porsche having some type of production problems, or is this normal for the car?

Thanks in advance,

Bill Wagner

Dear Bill,
This is normal I think for the USA. Nobody wharehouses parts anymore. They order only when requested. I have never had to wait more than two days for any Porsche parts. You should try and purchase Japanese car parts here in Europe, especially Switzerland and these things are still in production,

PS: If you are having troubles contact Melanie via web site www.v-zweeden.com. This is a Dutch company and they have always got me what I need.

Bill,

Call Kenn, who's the parts manager, at Hendrick Porsche 800-315-8193. When the US has been out of parts I've needed, he's ordered them directly from Porsche Germany. No affiliation, just satisfied customer.

Hmmm ... when I had the filler neck on my car replaced a couple months ago at the dealer, they had the item in stock. I had the car there for something else, and asked them to evaluate my problem with the gas pump shutting off during fill. So, they didn't even have advanced notice to get the part.

The dealer's name is Hoehn, in Carlsbad, CA. If you strike out on the other options, I can get you the phone #, if you like.

Thanks.

I think I'll try Hendrick. I think I said that once before but a local shop said they could get them overnight. Now they're telling me they're on national back order.
