Who's seen the latest issue of European Car?
It includes a feature on the 993 but in the opening paragraph, the "journalist" mentioned that it replaced the forgettable 964. That makes me so angry I could scream!
What the heck does this guy know about 964's? Has he ever driven one? I immediately put down the magazine and refuse to read EC ever again. Who's with me?

Wanna feel better? Architectural Digest's recent "Best of Design" issue, in which they the give "Best Design" awards to a variety of products, gave a Best Design award to a 964 (black, of course, )and commented that it was the last of the partially hand-built 911s. So there!
I will scan and post the article when I get the chance (I am moving this weekend and will be AWOL for a while. ).

Calm down, Joey, or you might be assigned an anger management therapist. Mitchell has probably driven 964s and 993s, and prefers the 993, as do many others apparently. His article details the improvements over previous 911s. I remember articles touting the 964 upsetting the 911 Carrera guys who insisted that the Carrera was the last real 911 because the 964 no longer had that raw viseral feeling, and it was hard to get the tail around. Besides, it was prohibitively expensive for many Carrera owners (cost more than the 993 that followed it).

(Edited: I deleted my latest rant.)
Thanks for your perspective! At least we're getting criticized for some decent reasons.
Well, I'm off to Road America this weekend to beat up on some BMW's. We'll shows 'em what a forgettable C4 can do!

I want to make sure the article I saw was the one you're refering to.
Was it the article that talked about "a legend" and "the ultimate air-cooled Porsche?"
Kumbaya

Is there a Pulitzer for car articles?
I found his arguments compeling, and his logic irrefutable.
However, I do think "forgettable" was a very poor choice of words. Especially when I can't forget a certain 964 that seems to be filling my mirrors lately.
I have to miss the first Auto-X. Kick butt.

"Forgettable" was pretty tough.
It seems as every few years lately Porsche makes an "orphan" model. The 2.7 liter 911S of 1974-1977, the 1989-1994 C2/C4, the 996...
However, I see fine points in all of them.
I admired my 1991 965, great cars for sure.

Mike in Chi, Sorry to hear about the autox conflict. Tristan and I went to the School on Sunday just in time for the minicross (about a 20 second layout). That ol' C4 did just fine, even around the skidpad. The 225 Kumho's up front might have something to do with that.
Michael B, Couldn't agree with you more.

the writer using the word "forgettable" is derogatory towards C2 C 4s ,It seemed to me he did this with that intent.
as with a lot of them he doesn't know what he is talking about, so I would just forget it and not worry about people like this.
I happen to think this is the best, and best looking 911 ever made.
There are good points and bad in most all models.
I guess that is why we don't all drive the same car

Are you planning on kicking Sami butt, Harris butt or Turek butt?
