Question 996 back to 964 or not ?

I am sure this may provoke a 996 v 964 debate but this not the aim.

After owning a 964 C4 and 2 993's I went for a 996 C4, a Boxster S and now currentlt a 996 C2. Whilst the newer models are great cars, I just do not get the same buzz I had with the air cooled.

I am going to view a 1993 C2 and 1990 C4 from Eporsche in the UK.

I know Rob Mugglestone has one as a daily drive and thank him for his feedback.

Have any of you here gone from a 996 back to a 964 ?

I do around 1000~1200 miles a month and have always used all of my PORSCHES as a dilay drive regardless.

Any feedback, views are welcome.

Thanks

Mark

I went from a 997S to a C2 and have not looked back. Much better feeling that you are driving the car rather than just "steering" it. 997 was/is a GREAT car, don't get me wrong, but if you want the feel of the older car there is only one way to achieve it!

I agree - I just went through a big "996 or not 996" decision, and ultimately decided that the 964 experience is so completely unique and exciting, nothing the 996 offers in creature comforts or performance outweighs it.

The 964 is a phenomenal automobile.

Hi. Prepare yourself for lots of unbiased opinion..ha!

You appear to be reasonably well heeled, and if I could afford it, I would be looking very seriously at a Cayman. Touted as harking back to the compact, feelsome 911 experience, but no 15 year old car worries - sounds just right! Can't wait to drive one.

Incidentally, and altho the drive I had didn't get up to much speed, driving a 993C2S recently back to back with my 964, I was surprised at how much more tactile the 964 felt, especially at sane speeds. Even a C4 at that. At big speeds, I'm sure the C2S would have been much more stable, and come into its own.

Not in a position to answer your specific question at all, actually, but there's nothing on the telly..

Funny you should ask. Just took my '93 C2 out for a spin yesterday, definitly more fun than the relativly chushy '02 C2 I had. It really put a smile on my face seems much more nibble.
The GT3......that's another story

You don't see 964's every day, but you sure do see a lot of 996's!

I just plain like the sound and look of the 964. It is a unique animal in the Porsche world. Yes, there are faster, perhaps more capable cars in the Porsche line-up. But then again, they really are not that much faster.

If one felt they were giving up some performance with the 964, they could easily remedy that. I enjoy the sleeper look of my C4 and would very much like to have it Ruf'd up, so to speak. One could easily keep the stock looking car and add enough HP to make all but a handful of cars fall away both in accelaration and in the twisties.

I love my 964, but I miss the FEEL of my 911SC when I'm in it...except when it's 90 degree's then I enjoy the feel of an AC that actually works well...but I think I know where your coming from...

Default Done it !!! 996 gone, 964 driven away

Well.......

Drove away from Eporsche with a Jul 1994 registered 964 C2.

Would you believe that my RMS on the 996 went on the way done, Roly of Eporsche was all okay about it and we done the deal, both of my 996's I owned have gone that way !!!, never again.

The car has a great history, and it looks great in Guards Red......

Rob, I did say hi to Roly for you !

Drove the 120 miles back home and it was a great feeling......

Thanks for all the feedback

Mark
