Help with instructions on how to remove the front fenders
Hello all,
I saw the past post on removing the front fenders on a 964 and I am hoping that you can help me in doing so as well. I am going to repaint the fenders and understand that I need to remove the bolts inside the luggage compartment and drill out the spots welts on the fenders and the A pillar?. Are there anyother items that need to be removed in the wheel compartments as well?. Does any of you, by any chance, have a write-up on how to remove the front fenders that I can follow?. Thank you very much in advance for all your help. Best, Andy

Not exactly what you're looking for, but related: removal of the front bumper. http://p-car.com/diy/bumper/
I haven't removed the fenders myself, but I'd be surprised if you have to drill out anything--mine have to be resprayed for some rock damage and the body shop implied that it's a simple bolt off/bolt on operation.

If you look at where your fender runs up over your door, open your door and you should see a spot weld holding the fender to the A-pillar. I'd use a die grinder. Also, your have about 7 bolts that hold the fender to the side jamb/A-pillar that need to be undone. Another tip is to use a razor blade to cut the undercoating along the fender edge (underside)...

John Kerr wrote up a procedure for fixing washer jets (including lots of pictures) which includes front bumper removal. You can read it here:
John Kerr's washer jet article
It doesn't say anything about drilling out spot welds, though!
Hope it helps...

TB, I just went through this...BOTH fenders!
I used a utility knife with fresh blade to cut through the undercoating and also a sharpened metal spackling knife to slide through from up above in an attempt to separate the MASSIVE undercoating job from the factory as to release the fender from the tub...it was aggravating at times!
It's MUCH easier to remove the bolts from the door jamb, driver's side if you disassemble the AC lines...or your pay hell getting to the bolts...especially being that they have TONS of undercoating over them.
Take your time, the hint about the spot welds on the "A" pillars, etc. is good advice. Once I got the fenders off, I ground that area nice and smooth, ground it smooth on the used fenders as well.
I have a few pics that may be of help to you, if interested, email me.
