Distributor Vent Kit...do you really need to use the hose?
I just went to install a distributor vent kit which I purchased for my 89 C4. I purchased the car about two months ago.
However, I noticed that the nipple had already been installed on the distributor housing, but there is no hose running off the nipple. Hence, I did not think the vent kit had been installed visually.
It came to mind....is it really necessary to vent the distributor into the heater tube? Or is it as I discribe that the distributor is now venting simply into the engine compartment itself? And is this fine?

The purpose of the kit is to take some of the air from the heater tube and force it into the distributor belt area, to dilute the air around the belt. Use the hose.

Yes it is necessary. The air blown into the distributor assembly removes the ozone which if left around the belt will rapidly cause its failure.

Dumb question perhaps,...but then is the belt in the primary distributor (distributor to which the vent kit is fitted) or is the belt in the secondary distributor housing (to which there is no vent kit fitted)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Andy,
Thanks. But which housing is the actual distributor belt located within. I should just pop the caps myself, but I was just wondering upfront where I would find the belt.
