Changing to a new Ignition lock
 

My car was recently stolen and later recovered...damned idiots....the car came back in one piece except for door pannels and stereo but both the ignition and door locks had been drilled out by the thief. I have replaced the door lock cylinders but have not yet attempted to replace the ignition lock set up. Any sudgestions of how to best go about doing this? Thanks as always, CB! :confused:

I helped a friend fix his '93. He had to replace his whole interior. You got lucky. Well the ignition lock assy is part number 964 347 917 01. Is the Lock Cylinder gone, it usually is. Look at the condition of the inside plate. You should see two round holes and a small rectangle. Is the rectangle in good shape. Get a used lock assy. Drill the roll pin out and remove the cylinder, or take it to a lock smith, he can do it and can re-key the lock. Install the cylinder into you existing ignition switch. Use a little silicone to set the cylinder. I'd recommend installing one of those armor plates to protect it for the future. If your inside plate is damaged. You need to files slots into the shear bolts. I have then used a chisel to loosen them, once loose, you can use a screw driver to get them both out. You have to take your lower dash out. Disconnect your battery. Remove the two electrical connectors, There is another shear set screw that needs to be drilled out removed that holds the steering lock to the steering column. If your ignition switch is damaged, I have one.

I think I will opt for the more sano removal and replacement of the entire lock cylinder from below. I have a new keyed cylinder and your procedure seems pretty straight forward to me. Thanks for all the help. :)
