Today, board management is not a democracy. It's up to John D, and us moderators as an extension of John, to manage the boards. John is, despite rumors to the contrary, human like the rest of us. Managing Rennlist, in it's entirety, is a big freakin' job, so John allows moderators to assist in the smooth flow of the discussions. In some cases, discussions get out of hand, and we take actions, perhaps closing the discussions, moving them to other more appropriate categories, deleting them, or in the most severe cases, removing someone from board access. And many times there are "behind the scenes" actions that aren't obvious, but contribute to the overall smooth running of the boards.

As a moderator, one thing that's very difficult to moderate is that of speech and opinions. When does a particular discussion cross the line from acceptable discussion to requiring some form of censorship? We could debate that in depth, and I'd suggest that beyond dealing with obscenities, it's not a clear cut discussion.

Regarding the recent discussion, it's unfortunate that Adrian has chosen to leave the board for a bit. However, he has done this, in shades before, as other activities consumed his energies - and frankly we all do that at one time or another. We'll look forward to his return in the future.

So, on this note, I'm going to close this particular thread. If anyone wants more discussion, please email me.
