Self Diagnosis - Second Opinions Welcomed
Had my car in to get serviced a couple of weeks ago...no major problems but they mentioned that the dizzy caps and rotors were the originals and recommended they be changed. I decided to save the labor hours and do the job myself, so I sourced the parts and did it last weekend. Bit of a fiddly bloody job but no apparant problems after refitting.
Yesterday drove the car to work ( about 20miles) no problem but on starting up to go home it seemed to hesitate a little before starting and thereafter its been running like a bag of spanners
Started pinging under load and just generally feels like it is misfiring.
Now the other thing to consider is it fealt exactly the same to me a few months ago and through you helpful lot I diagnosed a broken dizzy belt and had it replaced . Seems unlikely that this would fail again after such short a time.
I am wondering if in removing the HT leads I damaged one ?
wotdyathink?

Hi,
My advice is to always look at what you have just changed before swapping out any other parts. It's likely that you have just not pushed the HT leads into the caps properly, or dislodged the coil HT leads. If all this looks ok - then try putting the old caps and rotors back again and see what happens.
BTW - Did you reset the DME after this work?
Good luck
Ade

Hi,
Forgot to ask - have you by accident swapped over some of the HT leads? It's easy to do and you really need to trace these first and make sure. Having two distributors will disguise swapped HT leads a little better then single distributors.

Thanks Ade.....that is pretty much in line with my thoughts and will do so in the morning.
Unfortunately I threw the old dizzy caps and rotors away (DUMB).
With ref DME reset....Nope !....good catch my battery was connected the whole time and I simply started and drove as normal, so I will also do the disconnect and drive hard thing as well.
Once again thanks....a few heads are better than one
