Post Atmosphere in this forum

Anyone else noticed how good natured the 964 forum is?

Browsing around the others, as I do from time to time, I can't help but cringe and wince at some of the nasty remarks, flaming, fights, sarcasm and lack of friendliness that crop up.

I don't think I've EVER seen anything of this nature here.

And the first one to say, 'Hey, John, why don't you %^&* the *^&^ up?!' can just *<@+ &%$!

Actually yes, I did notice. A Nurburgring related forum even had to close down the "old" forum and restart a "new" one. Now everybody has to register with a full name, and many people seem to walk on eggs when posting.

Quite a difference to the good-natured banter and tolerant pointers to the archives (when classic topics come up) that are on this forum.

I like reading this forum

Cheers,

JW

Maybe we just need a sense of humor and good comradeship because no-one else seems to understand why we love the 964.

Have you ever noticed the high percentage of Brits (and ex-pat Brits) on this forum, especially as compared to other forums? I think the admirable British sense of humor has much to do with how laid-back this forum is.

Which isn't to say that people from other countries have no sense of humor.

I find the help on this board to be absolutely excellent! I am in the US and get a kick out of trying to communicate with all the brits on the board using their key words- like brilliant (vs. our awesome), bonnet (vs. our trunk), kerb (vs our curb), cigar lighter (vs. our cigarette lighter), roundabout (vs. our circles), tyres (vs tires), and of course pounds (vs. dollars)! Not just the folks from the UK- I have received help from literally all around the globe- Spain, France, Austrailia, Netherlands, and so many others!

I go on some other boards (roadfly, etc), and they are not as active as this board for Porsche 964s. Also, no "political heckling" on this board (like another BMW board I frequent), despite everything going on in the world now- people respect each other and stick to (1) cars and (2) fun! The friendship (even if its "cyber friendship") on this board is great, and a great stress relief after a long day at work!

I agree to Andrew911. I am from Hong Kong, as far as I am concern, may be we are from different cultures and backgrounds but one vital thing we all share is the love of 964......
That's not to say I support Bad Language, I want to say that we all have temper and feel depressed sometimes. Most important here is to share it out reasonably and if it is about 964, then some of us can help. Right? There is a line to be drawn about " BAD language" and " Frustration". I think I can tolerate it at the moment, we should thank the moderators to do such a good job, keep it up!!

Cheers!

Eddie from Hong Kong.

I have time to follow only the 911 boards and some OT stuff. We definitely have a good, helpful group on the 964 board. It seems that the 993 board gets quite "worked up" on occassion over some non technical issues. That make for fun reading!

Why is it that every time I get sick of the a-holes that drop into the 993 board and get things all fired up over nothing and come over to the 964 board again - you all are talking about how we always act up on the 993 board? (Wait a minute... I just answered my own question.) I think the long winter months get some people a little stir crazy. Maybe there are too many people in the 993 world that don't drive enough when it gets cold so they get cranky. So how come the 964 board is so pleasant?

This is all lies - there is a subversive movement in this forum who obviously think C4's owners are inferior.

Well all I want to say is we C4 owners don't see any difference between C2 owners and normal people. (can't promise this holds for cabrio owners though!!) We can even accommodate Turbo owners whose egos obviously need boosting.

....maybe it's time I bought a 993....:-)))

Damn, I hate it when you guys do this! Giving me the warm fuzzies and all. Okay, okay, I love y'all tons and honestly don't know what I'd do without you.

But seriously! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> I've got to agree with all of you. This is an EXCELLENT forum that probably starts with EXCELLENT moderators. But that's only where it starts! This forum has some of the best input on rennlist. So thanks to everyone that makes this place so "brilliant".

"This is an EXCELLENT forum that probably starts with EXCELLENT moderators"

I totally agree - any "club" or "association" is only as good as the leadership or the people who put the initial effort in.

Yes, there do seem to be a disproportionate number of Brits on this board, but that's secondary, in my humble opinion, to the fact that people with 964s and earlier appear very willing to get their hands dirty actually doing "things" to their cars. Where there is a genuine thirst for information, everyone stands to gain.

When I bought my car, a little under two years ago, I knew nothing about the 964 - or cars in any shape or form.

This forum, and particularly the unwavering support and patience of the more technically able members of the board, mean that I am comfortable when talking to my garage about what needs doing, and more importantly, trying to do simple tasks myself. That's only because of this massive life support system that is the 964 board (not forgetting, of course, the smartgroups board, which has the same sort of convivial atmosphere).

Thank you one and all for the help and advice - this board makes P-car owning a rewarding hobby!
