Post What does WOT do?

I've just been sorting a few things with my car, and while I was at it decided to see if my WOT switch was engaging. It wasn't, and I've now adjusted the pedal so that it does. I'm sure I'll see at least another 50bhp when I floor it now... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

But now I've realised I have no idea why it's there anyway. So what will happen differently now the switch engages?

Horn sounds, hazards & headlights flash and tannoy shouts "full throttle alert - everyone out of the way"

(Just kidding...) <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

This is the wide open throttle switch. When this engages the DME turns off the emissions control system. It ignores inputs from the O2 sensor and the airflow sensor. The fuel supply is increased and you should be accelerating hard. If this microswitch does not engage you lose the wide open throttle function as well as the ability to use the check engine light and to reset the DME using the accelerator pedal. This is called flashing the the dme.

Adrian, does the Tip have the WOT switch too? (as well as kickdown switch) If so, is it possible to flash the DME on a Tip in this way.

Dear Rob,
No a Tip does not have a WOT. The tip uses a throttle position sensor/switch which continuously tells the system where the accelerator pedal is. The issue with the tip is the tiptronic control unit which controls when the gear changing takes place. The throttle position switch does the same thing as the WOT only for the DME in fuel scheduling. Reset has to be done by disconnecting the battery on a tip to be successful. The check engine light function is slightly different as well.

Thanks Adrian. DME reset is planned, but I need to wait until the time is right for a blast afterwards!
