Heater Blower Question

My heater blower fan has died ('91 C2). I have disconnected the fan, and am planning to replace it with a bypass pipe. However with the fan disconnected, whenever the control unit trys to turn on the heater blower it registers an error and disables all other climate control functions (ie AC, dash blower, etc.).

So my question is if anyone knows of a hack to make the control unit think the fan is working?

Dear Rob,
You must reconnect the blower resistor which runs through the same connector and leave the resistor in the air pipe. Once the blower resistor is disconnected then the whole system is shut down. If you remove the heating system you will also have the same problem unless you leave some pipe connected, normally to the drivers side and leave the blower resistor in place and connected. If you remove it you will loose all heating and often aircon control,
Ciao,
Adrian.

My heater blower wouldn't work yet the blower was fine when it was on max cooling. The problem turned out to be the the rear blower in the engine compartment. If this rear blower is not working [generally because of seized/worn bearings the front heater blower won't work either.

Trish, same thing happened to me a couple of years ago just before a trip The motor is a 15 min job to replace, and $200.00 from Roy Rogers!

Hello Everyone,

I had the blower motor go out on my 90 C2 and I got the replacement from Pelican Parts for under $100 ! It is a unit with a 993 or 996 P/N (I forgot which, but it works just the same. :D

One caution though !!!! The mounting bushings used in the replacement unit are too long for the 964's ! Take out the ones from the old unit and put them in the new unit. If you don't swap them the bolts can strip the threads  and the unit will not line up properly.

If you have any question or need pix email me.
