Silicone grease for rubber seals?
Is silicone grease the best product to condition and protect the weather stripping around my doors and targa top? Thank you in advance!

I don't have any experience with silicone grease for protecting seals. But, I do use the Lexol product Vinylex for all the rubber seals and vinyl on my car with very good results.

Guys,
I have used common old vasoline for years on these seals. Works fine. Great in winter, stops the doors from seizing up. If you use silicon grease just be very careful where you put it. Make sure you do not get it into any electrical circuits,

I have the air-jac system installed on my 92- Cup Car. After having 2 tubes fail, I took one apart to find out there is really only one main gasket in it. Would any one recomend a lubricant for this?

I would not recommend vasolene, as it is petrolium, and will deteriorate rubber. Use silicone spray. Be careful, though, and DON'T USE ANY SILICONE AROUND A RUNNING ENGINE! Take it from one one that has learned this lesson the hard way. The tiniset wiff of silicone will ruin your O-2 sensor. ($160.00)

Dear Horst,
The seals on a 964 are synthetic rubber. Not organic rubber. I have used vasoline on my door seals since I have lived in Switzerland. It is recommended to be used as part of winterisation. It is safe enough to be used on skin in my opinion it is safe enough to use on my autos. I use in on my lips every day to stop them chaffing. They haven´t fallen oiff yet (just kidding but I do use it and so does the rest of the family).
Silicon spray I do not recommend at all. It ruins speakers, door locks, O2 sensors. motors and the list goes on. Yes you can be careful but it always goes everywhere and it doesn´t last either.
However it comes down to each to their own. In the end it is your money. My autos are not falling to bits and they get vasoline every winter. Help keep the moisture out as well.
For my 1000th post I though I would have something more technical to say but there you go,

I have tried Lexol's Vinylex and found it to be more for interior vinyl such as seatbacks, rear deck and the like. But this product is much too shiny for my taste and I went with Mequires #40 vinyl & rubber conditioner which is much less shiny when following the instructions. But both of these products don't last very long espescially on porous rubber. I use Zymol's Seal for the door & trunk gaskets and though pricy, it seems to work very well. It appears to be glyciern, not silicon. It washes off easily unlike silicon or vasilene. Call Zymol's 800 mumber to get the full ingredient list.

I do agree that Vaseline can be a pain to get off and gets messy when it gets on your clothes. However it is made up for when you can get in and out of your auto in winter without using a hairdryer or getting your lips stuck to the door handle,

Thank you all for the spirited discussion on protecting door/targa seals. I just ordered a bottle of Xymol's rubber protectant with glycerine as its active ingredient. Your caution on silicone spray is appreciated as well. I used to spray that stuff all over my old Saab 900 - I never encountered any problems but will be sure not to use it on the C2. Thanks again!

Dear Scotty,
Even though it is completely off topic I feel for you having to visit the dentist. I was in great pain over Christmas and after we finally found a dentist on 27th Dec the offending tooth was removed. I can even eat ice cream again. Pain free for a while now and very happy,
